Reading's first away game in the new Premier League season almost saw them pull off a shock result at Stamford Bridge. The Royals were leading Chelsea for much of the game after going two goals to one up inside half an hour. Lampard put Chelsea ahead from the penalty spot before goals from Pogrebnyak and Guthrie (assisted by the Chelsea goalkeeper) put Reading ahead. Chelsea pulled level with just twenty minutes left to play before a dodgy offside goal from Torres - which even Chelsea admitted they were fortunate to get - put the home side back ahead.
With Reading on the attack looking to claim back a point, and Federici going up for a corner, Chelsea were then able to add a fourth in stoppage time at the end of the game. Despite the result this was an excellent performance from Reading that will be a massive confidence booster early in the season.
