New Signings Hope To Face Sheffield Wednesday

Reading fans may get to see new signings Yann Kermorgant and George Evans in action this weekend as Reading take on Sheffield Wednesday at the Madesjki Stadium (Saturday, 3pm kick-off). Striker Kermorgant and midfielder Evans both signed contracts during the week to bring them to Reading, and Brian McDermott will hope they bring a boost to Reading's faltering Championship campaign. McDermott saw his side successfully negotiate passage to the fourth round of the FA Cup with Tuesday night's 5-2 home victory against Huddersfield - but league form remains a big concern. Reading were sinking down the table when McDermott arrived, and his run of 2 wins, a draw, and 3 defeats has done little to stop that. It is, of course, very early days for a manager who is experienced at halting Reading slides and guiding them up the table.

The Royals looked in trouble on Tuesday before Huddersfield Town were reduced to 10 men and the game turned around allowing Matej Vydra to claim his first Reading hattrick. Vydra had his best game in a Reading shirt, and hopefully it will give the hard working player a big confidence boost to get him scoring goals. Vydra is guaranteed a start and could find himself partnered up front by Kermorgant. Meanwhile Garath McCleary is doubtful for the fixture due to a hamstring problem. Jordan Obita is making his return from injury and could be included on the bench.

Visitors Sheffield Wednesday are in magnificent form and are currently on a run of four straight wins in all competitions. In the League their run of 5 wins from 6 games has seen them climb to 6th place in the table. However, away from home they haven't been so impressive and their recent 1-0 win at Fulham remains their only away win from their last 7 attempts. Reading will be looking to make home advantage count. Wednesday, holding the last play-off spot, are 11 points ahead of the Royals. With the season now well in it's second half Reading need a dramatic run of wins to give cause for excitement or we could just be playing out a mid-table season.
