Royals Get MK Dons In Next Round

After Tuesday's 2-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle in round one, Reading will play MK Dons in the second round of the League Cup. The game will take place at the Madejski Stadium on Tuesday 23 August. The League One side were 3-2 away winners against Newport County in their first round game, thanks to a last minute winner, and like the Royals, have started the season with two straight wins.

Last season MK Dons were relegated from the Championship - but they managed to keep two clean sheets against the Royals while picking up four points. Reading drew 0-0 at the Madejski but lost 0-1 away from home in two poor quality games.

There's a definite problem with the seeding for this draw. Cardiff should be a seed if they beat Bristol Rovers, but Bristol Rovers should not be a seed if they beat Cardiff. And the problem is that that game takes place after the draw. So it seems pretty certain that the winner of that tie will be seeded.
If Aston Villa, Leeds and QPR all win tonight then they will all be seeds and Reading will miss out. If any of the three go out, then Reading will be a seed. Except.... what if Villa win in 90 minutes and one or both of the other two go into extra time? No way would Sky Sports hold up the draw, So again, the winners of any games still going on would have to be seeded.
And all this could be avoided by either:

(a) not having seeds, because it is after all a very stupid system, or

(b) holding the draw after the round has finished.
Note also that Liverpool will play their game away even if drawn at home. They will also pay extra money to their opponents. So Reading as a non-seed and away to Liverpool will suit me.
Edit: Got the "not waiting" bit very badly wrong....

Agreed. We owe them for the two utterly inept games from last season, particularly that disgrace that masqueraded as a performance at their place.
Also, :lol: at the FL/SKY for not waiting until tonight to do the draw thus having that damn stupid seeding question left open. Still, it gives added impetus for Rovers to do Cardiff and send Bristol City to Scunthorpe rather than Chelsea.
