Deniss Rakels - Early opinions?

by Mark_25 » 08 Feb 2016 10:05

Might be a bit hard to say at the moment, but for the 15 minutes or so we saw him I thought he was quite promising. Looked pretty quick, made a few intelligent runs / touches, linked quite well with Yann. Seems dangerous in both a footballing and an 'I kill for money' kind of way. The only downside I thought was the theatrical way he went down for the penalty claim - can't help but feel we might have got it if he wasn't so Ashley Young about it.

From the 15 minutes of play and two touches he made, I reckon there is no doubt he's an absolute superstar. You could just tell with no inconclusiveness at all.

Looked like a bald Adam Le Fondre at times, very lively - if that's him not match-fit then it might be he's one of those players who conserves energy in training but gives it his all in the game.

I saw enough (on the back, also of his YouTube goals) to think he will be a very good player.

He likes a diagonal run towards the near post, but the ball didn't arrive

If his discipline is OK, he will be excellent for us.

Think I saw someone say he's not yet received a red card in his career? Aside from the fact he looks terrifying what reason to we have to believe discipline may be an issue :?:

I'm prepared to give him at least another 15 minutes on the pitch before booing him.

About the only thing I can judge on that 15 mins is he's gonna have a go and he's got some pace.

Lets give 3-4 matches before declaring him the messiah/anti-christ.

If recent policy is anything to go by he's only got another 15 mins on the pitch before he's shipped out abroad

Unlike Blackman seemed to want to get involved in the thick of the action.

Good to see the other players acknowledge him at the end of the game. There's a good spirit and bond building.

Perhaps he's all soft and cuddly inside and has just adopted an aggressive exterior appearance to ensure he isn't picked on by others? or maybe he's smart enough to keep his anger bottled up inside until after the match when he has time to hunt the opposition player down and go at them with a baseball bat?

thought he was good in his 15mins. seemed a bit quicker than i thought he would be, moved in and out of the defence to create space quite well, look forward to seeing more of him.

I did see him in the hotel before the game and said "welcome to the Club" he said "thank you". i can confirm he was softly spoken. i paid him my dinner money and i think i am safeuntil next week :D

I think that's the full extent of his knowledge of English to be fair. A mate saw him before the game and asked him to sign his shirt. Afterwards he said "thank you", and that was it.
