Essentially Coppell, McDermott, Pardew and even McGhee played a certain brand of 'Get at 'em quick' football. Look how Newcastle play. Dull for a while - cross your fingers - ride your luck then get at them fast!!!

Rodgers, Adkins and even Tommy Burns went for 'their style' and 'their players'.

It just doesn't work with us. We are not a particularly sophisticated fan base (speak for myself, i know) and we just like to watch a team having a good go, preferably at a decent tempo.

This is why Guthrie struggles. This is why Karacan is a huge loss at the moment and why people were sad to see Jay Tabb go (was this an Adkins decision or hadn't he started then? They were pretty close together).

I therefore declare Pulis' up and at-em style is probably our way forward. Sorry for you pretty football types. No good at the Mad Stad.

I wouldn't describe McDermott's style as the same as Coppell, Pardew or McGhee's. I'd say Adkins was closer to them than McDermott. The misleading difference being McDermott was successful and Adkins hasn't been.

Burns and Rodgers is a good comparison.

Guthrie struggles because he's a reserve. He's never been a regular at any of his clubs save for 1 season in the Championship with Newcastle. For some reason the fans at this club have got it into their heads that he's a brilliant football genius, same as they appeared to believed that Nigel Adkins was the second coming of Rinus Michels.
