From 2019-20, two rounds of Premier League fixtures will be shown exclusively online by Amazon Prime.
I think we are probably 4-5 years away from a complete breakup of the current subscription TV model, as by then there won't be much left.

I do hope we end up with an option to cherry-pick sports or games that we want to watch, at a subscription price. The NFL pass is great and let's fans watch any game, anywhere and would be a good first step. I think we'll end up with a couple of years of an unsatisfactory interim setup where you need about 5 or 6 subscriptions to watch all games.

Wouldn't surprise me if it happens more in the UK come 2022 when the next deal ends. Is happening elsewhere, think the only thing that has stopped it too date in the UK is the currently prohibative cost of PL rights for new entrants,

The Perform Group will likely be the ones to watch when the next rounds come round as they look to push DAZN into the UK - especially if more multi-game packages come available.

Not sure, they have a partnership in Canada where DAZN stream their channels.

The guy who owns Perform is absolutely minted and has made it clear he wants to get into the UK market but waiting for the right time regarding rights costs. Is growing incredibly quickly over here, they have just nicked nearly all the Champions League off Sky from next season. Will show 110 games live and every single EL game.

Nail in the coffin for me getting sky sports next year. They already took away loads of sports from me a few months back when they changed how their channel subscriptions work, doubt very much I will get it back after the summer now.

Prime get 20 'extra' games. Sounds a lot but its actually just boxing day games ( every one) and another full bank holiday day fixtures.

So only two matchdays.

Sky have 128 games BT 50 Amazon 20 but only on 2 match days.

Minor issue from the 2019 til 2022.

Its the next lot that will be a game changer....

I agree that it is the next round where all the pieces will likely move, but there's a couple of nuances that make this deal stand out - first that it is the 2 specific match days, i.e. that Sky or BT will not show any of that round of games, rather than their pick of 2 or 3, and second that, as you say, every game from those two rounds will be available on live stream, rather than the 2 or 3 picked by broadcasters. It's a real change.

The fact that it is Boxing Day as well, will piss a lot of people off. Would be part of the day to have a game on, or head to the pub for it. Given it will be on an over the top service, I very much doubt that the chance to watch a PL game in the pub on Boxing Day will exist between 2019-22.

Not sure. Is there a business version of Prime? If it is only for private individuals then I would imagine there is some rule against transmitting in public.

Amazon onto a right winner. Everyone will take a 30 day free trial which coincides with the Boxing Day sales.

See the new deal also includes a "winter break".

There won't be a break as such but one round of games will be played over 2 weekends, so that each club has a 2 week break but there will still be PL games each weekend.

FA Cup 5th round will move to midweek and have no replays.

Next 3 nights - strangely staggered tonight and Thursday with one game at 19.30 and the other at 20.15 - guess to try and get you to watch at least some of both games. Same split tomorrow but just the Merseyside Derby starting later.

Yes it will be in pubs as there is a deal in place with BT Sport to licence games to pubs.
