and?
That's a oxf*rd stupid idea
why is it stupid?

The pre-cursor was “it’ll never happen”

106 and no promotion, as is, it’ll happen again

Just seen the stoppage time action
Bottom line is if Rochdale fans had stayed in the stands until the end they would have won, even saw a few getting in the faces of York players, one of the fans got laid out by one of them.
Expect they feel quite stupid now.
Most likely but York could still have scored in the remaining 90 seconds or so.

Yes, but then ‘Dale players wouldn’t have had their concentration knackered quite so much.

You have had an historic season, a billion points. Second place. Need to beat the team in first on the final day to go up. You score what looks like the winner in the sixth minute of six added minutes. You appear to have been promoted to the football league.

I'm not an 'on the pitch' guy, but of course fans went on the pitch. Of course they did. I bet not a single one of them 'feels silly' this morning. There were a whole bunch of footballing things - challenges, headers won/lost, cross blocked, cross sent in again, scramble in the six yard box. York scored - none of it was because Rochdale fans went on the pitch.

Crazy end to a brilliant season for both sides. Hopefully Rochdale now make it happen in the play-offs.

Indeed. York and Rochdale released a joint-statement on Saturday asking for the authorities to change it to 3 up from the NL.

https://rochdaleafc.co.uk/joint-stateme ... ty-240426/

Interestingly*, no team promoted from the National League has been relegated the following season since the league adopted its current format in 2002-03.

Of the 23 teams to have finished second in that period, only six have been promoted through the play-offs. Wrexham, Stockport and Bromley have all been promoted to League One within two seasons of escaping the National League, while Notts County have qualified for this season’s League Two play-offs.

AFC Dunstable 4-3 Rayners Lane - just as 'AFC' wink out of existence (merging with/absorbed by Town) they somehow finish their final ever game with a mad flourish in the final 20’

Beaconsfield Town 2-0 Ware
Biggleswade Town 2-0 Marlow
Enfield 2-4 Welwyn Garden City
Flackwell Heath 0-2 Biggleswade
Hitchin Town 0-5 Thame United – pretty remarkable margin of victory over runners- up Hitchin

- if I was a slightly cynical man, I’d call ‘shennanigans’ on this result:
– following an end-of-season game I attended, Braintree were ‘bush-whacked’ (by Eastbourne Borough) in a STEP02 PO campaign - in similar circumstances .....
- likely PO opponents were facing them in the last regular season game and there was a 'whiff' of ‘manipulation’ about the outcome :?
– EB either played in a very low gear or put out a ‘2nd string’ for the league match - not ‘showing their hand’ too early
– thus Borough rather tamely lost the league game (avoiding much-fancied-Eastleigh as a result - that last bit has a certain re-verb)
- they promptly ‘whupped’ Braintree 5-0 on agg in the POs – though were still 2-legged back then
– it may just be my senility being fanciful but I thought it ‘odd’ that the Borough fans that day weren’t too fussed about the manner in which they were being beaten in the League game??

Southern Combination Challenge Cup
Reading City 2-1 Sheerwater - 2 goals in as many minutes for City – Stefan Brown and Joel Valentin with the goals on 66’ & 68’
- This Cup is not best served by Soc.Med. I would probably need to go thru several club ‘X’ or FB sites to confirm later results.
– not aware that Sheerwater had been re-instated – thought they were on the 'other side' of the draw – but had noticed they had been drawn away at SCR and lost 0-1 back in Nov !? :?
–So ‘Cityzens’ were supposed to be playing SCR in this tie which was a Q-F– and now should host Bedfont Sports in the S-F?
Other S-F was Camberley Town 1-3 Cobham –played about a week or so back (18th?)
- this competition is very often an afterthought : shoe-horned in to where there are spare dates and subject to late exclusions and withdrawals.
I may have dig about for the last few dates/venues......

Newport (IoW) 3-0 AFC Aldermaston
Ringwood Town 1-2 Totton & Eling
Romsey Town 2-4 Colden Common
Yateley United 2-1 Clanfield – staggering late season run of 13 straight wins propelled Yateley into the POs
- were level bottom after 8 games
– they go to Winchester’s Charters Community Stadium on Wed night, to take on 3rd placed Colden Common
- CC were the last side to beat them back in mid Feb

TVPL-Prem
Premier Division
Maidenhead Town 4-2 Newbury Town

..... TVLP Berks Trophy Centre Cup Final @ SCL set for Tue 5th May

...and finally 8)
- got a 'new' tick up at Britwell in the East Baaaarks Premier - the hosts lost 0-2 to AFC Dukes (from Bracknell)
- nice clubhouse bar in the Community Centre there, set just north of the Slough Trading Estate near M4 jn7 and pretty close to Burnham
- was far too hot for football - or maybe I was just caught out by the unseasonal warmth - very little shade too.

The issue with the 3UP campaign for me is it completely ignores the fact that over half of the National League teams are utter crap. Yes two teams got over 100 points and third got 95. But half the league didn't get 60 points in a 46 game season. In most 24 team leagues less than 50 points should see you be relegated. The National League is not "League 3" as York and Rochdale claim. The top of it is but three quarters of it is not. I'd be in favour of the EFL becoming 4 leagues of 20 rather than 3 of 24 as it currently is to allow the top of the NL to be in the professional game. Rather than 3 up from the NL.

It’s not always the second place team that gets up via the play offs. Last season Oldham were promoted having finished 6th or 7th and they are comfortably mid table. I agree there’s a huge disparity between those at the top and the teams at the bottom. Not many are calling for 2 up and 2 down from the Premier League where there’s a similar disparity.
