It's a step up in intensity, pressure and the preperation that comes with being involved in the first team of a club. I imagine that there were also more fixtures for Oxford than our U21s so it's all about having exposure to, and seeing how they deal with, the pressure and routine of being a first team player.
He'd also have been one injury or red card away from getting games as well.
He might not be good enough to make it, only time will tell, but the logic behind his loans is pretty sound.

i think the standard of goalkeepers this club has been producing over the last decade proves to me and should prove to everyone else that the club knows what there doing

Fact that McC wasn't showing off the new keeper kit is probably proof that the club are trying to shift him on........

Can't really see that as a reason - didn't Noel Hunt model the new kit last year before he was moved on??

Guys the only reason McCarthy wasn't there is because they couldn't find him at the time! Not because he's preparing for an imminent move away from the club, and like someone said before me, people like Sigurdsson and Mills have been in the new-kit-shoot and have been sold just weeks later!

lol, as it was done at the stadium i reckon it was pre-arranged who was going.......i mean, its not as if the players just hang around the ground on non-match days

I wish Arsenal would buy him as i reckon he has it in him to be a top keeper.

He'll probably not achieve that sitting on Arsenal's bench.

If he wanted to know what it is like to waste your career on the bench at clubs like Arsenal then he'll have had plenty of time to ask Stuart Taylor over the last couple of years.

If McCarthy is having to turn out in the hoops our problems are even more serious than we realised.
