Absolutely agree with this, I've always rated him as a player. If he does have the desire/hunger he'll absolutely terrorise defenders at this level and you can't dispute his finishing ability either. His experience will help the younger strikers develop as well so it's a good move in my opinion.

Warm reception from both Reading and Bristol City supporters too, for differing reasons - if fit.

Tbh I've always thought his finishing was a bit iffy but he's a higher calibre and a different type to what we already have up front so if he's up for the challenge then it's got to be a good thing.

Yeah he's a poor finisher IMHO

So, we are signing a 34 year old striker whose career is on the Back Peddle. 9 times out of 10 they prove to be shit signings.
Massive backward step.

Just think how the youngsters will benefit from having him here. Really positive about this and he also sounds like one of life's good guys.

How could anything be a backwards step on Church?

Short term deal, he's better than Hunt, church and Manset, should be able to make a decent partnership with ALF. Then in the summer when players will be easier to buy i.e Donny will be in League 1, Huddersfield might not be in the championship. They'll be happier to allow players to move for more realistic fees.
Roberts improves what's currently available and that's all what's important.

There can only be a handful of strikers worldwide that are a step back from Manset and Church and we already have 3 of them.

I think anyone claiming to speak with any certainty either way that he will be a success or a failure is a bit weird really. If he is hungry and close to his best he will be great, if he isn't he wont.

This, I think, is a very very good point.

Come on, are you for real? Since when has signings like this proved a sound transfer strategy for us?
Joke signing that smacks of the Tommy Burns era.

As I recall Stoke signed Stanley Matthews when he was 46 and they got about 4 seasons out of him then including playing him 31 times in their 2nd Division promotion winning side of 1963. Probably doubters then as well saying he was past it and they'd rather sign an 16 year old nobody like Alan Hudson.
And on Wiki already
Jason Andre Davis Roberts MBE (born 25 January 1978) is an English-born Grenadian footballer who plays as a striker for championship club Reading FC.
So he was 34 yesterday and what a present for himself.....
And 6-0-6 could be interesting for us at last....

Let's give him a chance shall we, and you have the added bonus that if you don't like his efforts you can always call 6-0-6 and tell him so.

Griffin
Harte (to an extent)
Ledge (sort of)
Gorkss
All experienced pro's who have come in, are still hungry to succeed, and have added quality to the squad.
In fact, I can't think of a signing similar to this that McD has made that hasn't worked out.
It's the cheap gambles on unknowns from the Isthmian Premier that haven't worked out so far.
Proven quality striker, and we'd only be bringing him in if he still had desire to play, similarly, he wouldn't be coming here if he didn't have the desire to play football.
Big difference between this and Les Ferdinand IMO.

I think quite frankly he is shit for the prem and seems like a bit of a kick in the teeth for current strikers, but at this level and as long as it is only until end of season and on a free then not much to lose.
