Joke signing that smacks of the Tommy Burns era.
It's not a transfer strategy though is it?

It's just one signing at a time when we badly need some oomph up front and whilst we're in a bit of limboland with regard to what our new owners can/will be able to provide in the future. If we were buying in a Dads Army of signings I'd take your point but for one player who knows what it takes to get promoted from this division then I dont really see the problem.

Who knows what market place we'll be shopping in come the summer but for now Roberts fits the bill as far as I'm concerned.

Some minor facts on Jason courtesy of Wiki

In Spring 2007 he founded the Jason Roberts Foundation, which aims "to provide a range of sporting opportunities for children and young people in the UK and Grenada". Roberts comes from a very famous family, his uncles include former footballers Cyrille Regis, Dave Regis, Otis Roberts (a former Grenada international who played in Hong Kong and Belgium). He is also related to Olympic medallist John Regis.

Roberts was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2010 New Years Honours list for his services to sport in Grenada and in London, England. Upon receiving the award he stated in one of Blackburn's match day programme notes that he was humbled to get it and thanks everyone who has supported his charity work.

As I recall there was talk that Maurice Evans wanted to sign Cyrille Regis for Reading when he was a youngster at Hayes but the then board said no.

Let's hope he has the same impact a 34 year old Jimmy Quinn had on Reading when he first joined.

...............and who'd have thought that the 2 players who ran amok over a Reading defence in the 0-6 defeat by Bristol Rovers at the Mad Stad all those years ago would both eventually play for the club?

It's a funny old game.

Griffin
Harte (to an extent)
Ledge (sort of)
Gorkss
Sorry, don't accept most of those examples at all.

Griffin - loaned age 30 - 4 years younger.
Ledge - loaned age 28 - 6 years younger.
Gorkss - signed age 29 - 4 and a bit years younger

There is a massive difference between signing established and experienced players in their late 20s / turning 30 and signing a player who is in their mid 30s. most players should be able to keep going at a decent level into their early 30s. It's no where near as common for players to keep going into their mid-late 30s at a decent level.

I'm not saying that he isn't what we need, or that he'll be a failure. But to try and justify him on the basis that players that much younger than him have been a success, when they simply aren't comparable types of signing is laughable.

the fact is none of us know whther he will fail or succeed,so i think its fine to use whatever logic you like to back up what is after all just a pointless opinion

Ladies and Gentleman. If you are going to diss a potential signing, do it at length with no short easy soundbites. Oh and hedge your bets. Far easier to avoid the lolz later if you get it wrong. :)
