it'd have been a really odd transfer if we were. It still confuses me a bit tbh, there were rumours of teams buying him for 2-3m and then we loan him out instead. Would have thought a sale would have been better for us
At the time he didn't fit our system. It will be interesting what we do in the summer when he's back considering we play with wingers again.
you think maybe the owners only let him be loaned? There was some noise that he was one of the players they didnt want to sell

Surely the usual state is it is quiet and then we suddenly sign someone no one had anticipated ?

We'll have known well ahead what our finances were for this window and Aluko's return didn't come as a shock, it will have been budgeted for,
I don't think we need to make panic signings anyway, a short term loan centre forward until Joao is back is about all really.
It's 26th of Jan, there haven't been many rumours and no signings that I can think of. I'd say that's unusual.
May just be me but hasn't the window been pretty quiet across the board - been very little in terms of movement or rumours not involving Inter buying surplus PL players.
Could be, don't tend to pay much attention to the overall furore or other clubs.

lots and lots of places reporting this is very much in the offing. Another striker, Puscas, Joao, Meite, Baldock, Mcnulty, and now possibly Mendes. All vying for 1 up top... wonder who will be off, Puscas and baldock?

You make it sound so easy, nobody leaves when they still have a lucradive contract unless someone comes and offers a better one.

I'd be surprised if Puscas is on silly wages tbh; his career to date hasn't earned a big contract. If someone like Fenerbahce were interested, they could easily afford him.

Baldock is on bigger wages, which is why he was fairly defiant about staying in his interview.

Funnily ebpnough, Reading’s supposed rival to Pedro’s signing is UD Almeria in Spain and supposedly Jose Gomes has just been appointed as their new boss (though can’t find anything to substantiate this bit aside from the link below)....

https://amp.marca.com/futbol/almeria/20 ... ssion=true

Google Translation reads...

Almería will have a new coach for the playoffs. The current coach of the indálico team, Mario Silva, will stop being coach of the Andalusians in the next few hours. His position will be occupied by another Portuguese, José Gomes, who will be in charge of trying to get the desired promotion to the First Division. The new trainer is scheduled to conduct his first training this afternoon.

The owner of the rojiblanco team, Turki Al-Sheikh, has not trembled in the pulse of dismissing one of his trusted men. It must be remembered that Mario Silva performed the functions of Technical Director of the Academy. In this way, Gomes will be the fourth coach to lead the team from Almería since the new ownership took over the team.

Mario Silva took the reins of Almería, being third, after occupying the position of Guti. He ended up qualifying him for the playoffs, although not with the expected result and that is that on the last day they lost the third position. The Portuguese coach has been in office for just a month.

In the seven games that Silva sat on the Andalusian bench he got eight points from the 21 that were at stake. Which translates into two wins, the same number of draws and three losses.

They aren’t vying for 1 position though. We played 2 of them in many games last season and could easily play 3.
Would Howe we agree that in terms of strikers a one in one out would seem sensible if one of the summer objectives is to reduce and rebalance the squad.

well if we knew we wouldn't be able to get some out the door why on earth would we be in the market for another striker... we are trying to cut our cloth if we sign this guy, there is no way we would go into next season with 6 strikers

As Pedro is only 20 would he go into the under 23s to start with but could then replace Baldock in the first team once his contract expires at the end of next season?

If he was a free transfer that might work, as long as he’s not,on PL wages.
But why were oiled he come here to be parked in the youth set up for a year ?

I would suggest the path to first team football would be easier here than at Sporting.
