well if we knew we wouldn't be able to get some out the door why on earth would we be in the market for another striker... we are trying to cut our cloth if we sign this guy, there is no way we would go into next season with 6 strikers
As Pedro is only 20 would he go into the under 23s to start with but could then replace Baldock in the first team once his contract expires at the end of next season?
I think he’d want similar to what Yakou Meite had in his first season with us in being considered a rotational player, maybe more. To get a youngster from a club like sporting we have to promise him game time generally anyway. Honestly don’t know if covid pandemic meaning the potential for 20 year old him living abroad for the first time might affect whether he would want to come here over Almeria considering Spain is closer to his native Portugal than we are. Faces the prospect of a 14 day quarantine to come here too since Portugal are not on the exception list. Might need to do a bit more convincing to get him to come here.

Got any proof the two are linked? I’d love to see some.

can he play wide at all or is he an out and out centre forward. If he can cross a ball sign him if he is another target man then its a no from me.

It's just a flat no from me unless we sell one of Baldock, Puscas or Joao here.
Plus he's been rumoured long enough you know it's Joorabchian sticking his oar in rather than Bowen

Yeah you'd think its got to be Mcnulty, Smith +1 other out before we look at bringing in a striker.

Agree, anyone hoping for any big positive changes in RFC are going to have to wait until we’ve cut ties with that bloke.
Its like we’re operating 2 different transfer policies...the managers and Kia’s. No wonder performances are poor and formations don’t work when you add all of it together

According to
https://mobile.twitter.com/Sporting160_ ... 3905343491
The list of 9 names that Rúben Amorim (Sporting manager) has already decided are out of his plans for 2020/21:
- Renan Ribeiro
- Valentin Rosier
- Stefan Ristovski
- Tiago Ilori
- Eduardo
- Miguel Luís
- Francsico Geraldes
- Matheus Oliveira
- Pedro Mendes
So, Pedro Mendes and Tiago Ilori both surplus to requirements

It's only 18 months since they bought Ilori!

Ristovski sounds like a cold hand job.

I don’t know why but I just have this feeling that Mendes could flourish in the championship. Has that look about him. I know that’s completely unfounded but purely on that speculative basis I’d be happy if he came here.

Yes I get that feeling, not sure why.
Is a bit of a gamble, he hasn’t really shown a great deal from what I have read and seen but then he is young.
Same old situation of whether someone like this can come into the cut and thrust of the championship and do a good job. But then really I suppose unless you buy a proven championship player you’ll always have that gamble whether you buy from abroad, a young player or from lower leagues. If wages aren’t too bad then I’d be happy with this.
Well, happy until such time as he may fail to live up to much and then I won’t be , fickle football fan that I am

My Sporting supporting friend compares his style to Zlatan. Albeit at youth level.
Sounds promising though, need presence up top.

I had a Portuguese friend at uni, well he was half-half. And he never spoke about Mendes, so I dunno.

There's more to it as well, but the details are getting a bit hazy with age. It involved doing things, if I remember correctly.
