Funny enough, I used to think that they played in Salford. I didn't know about the reorganisation. Why can't we do that here and take back Earley, Woodley, Calcot etc etc?Dirk Gently wrote:IndeedSpaceCruiser wrote:I thought they played in Trafford?Dirk Gently wrote:Plus, of course, Manchester United play in Salford. They used to, I'm sure.
I think Trafford used to be part of the City of Salford before the last reorganisation which took it all into Greater Manchester.
You didn't read all the posts Dirk.Dirk Gently wrote:Bolton have wandered to Horwich.

Millwall exists though.

No (sorry, I'm a Lancashire historian), Trafford was always part of Manchester, until the creation of Trafford MBC in 1974; it was never part of Salford, which is on the other side of the Ship Canal (so only about 200 yards away from OT).Dirk Gently wrote:IndeedSpaceCruiser wrote:I thought they played in Trafford?Dirk Gently wrote:Plus, of course, Manchester United play in Salford. They used to, I'm sure.

There's one as you cross the Thames on the A404 from Wycombe - it always gives me a small glow of satisfaction as I drive down to a match...Duke the Dog wrote:Berkshire is like Middlesex (and various other long-forgotten minor Welsh counties like er, Monmouthshire - i can't remember the others), it only exists on the map or as sporting associations (eg Berkshire CC).
As an administrative entity is doesn't exist. You try and find a road sign that says "Welcome to Berkshire"! - Someone'll bloody find one now won't they!
Apologies - I stand corrected. I'm sure, though, that Man City fans in the past have said many times that Man Utd's not in Manchester, it's in Salford. Has this never been true?rabidbee wrote:No (sorry, I'm a Lancashire historian), Trafford was always part of Manchester, until the creation of Trafford MBC in 1974; it was never part of Salford, which is on the other side of the Ship Canal (so only about 200 yards away from OT).Dirk Gently wrote:IndeedSpaceCruiser wrote: I thought they played in Trafford? They used to, I'm sure.

No, it's never been true. And most City fans are stupid.Dirk Gently wrote:Apologies - I stand corrected. But to be fair, Dingwall was the county town of what was the County of Ross, and Falkirk was in the eastern half of the former county of Stirlingshire.Ark Royal wrote:Ross County play in Dingwall, Partick Thistle play in Maryhill, Albion Rovers play in Coatbridge and East Stirlingshire are one of the two teams in Falkirk.
