Michael Cheek (Bromley)

The last time I posted on here (I think!) I told those reading that Le Fondre was on his way, before anyone else (again, I think, it's been a while)

I'm told this morning we watched Bromleys Michael Cheek yesterday (he scored) and we're likely to bid this week. Figure mentioned to me was £300k.

There you go. That's the rumour/info I have.

£300k for a 33 year old with no L1 experience?

No resale value. No real future season prospects. Seemingly 1 season experience in L2. Sounds like nonsense and an utterly dreadful deal.

Sure he bagged a hatful in L2 last season... but really? Sounds like a desperation move.

If he knows where the goal is then that in itself could be enough, having the knack to be in the right place at the right time might well be all that’s needed. He averages 1 in 2 in league games (1 in 1.8 last year) and has stepped up the leagues successfully so far (NLS to NL to L2). Would also see it as a real opportunity to prove himself and wouldn’t come with the “fancy dan - you’re just a stepping stone” attitude.

At 34 though (his 34th birthday is in a fortnight) the investment is possibly more along the lines of what O’Mahony and the other Reading forwards might learn from him.

I’d be happy to give him a chance, as you never know it might be inspired - and Reading won’t be able to find much better given their financial position. Plus AI says “do it” so what’s the problem?

Yeah 25 goals in 45 appearances, and 7 assists is not bad even for L2.

I mean, if we only pay £300k and not much in terms of wages, not too long a contract. for a proven goalscorer that's not bad. Especially if we're also goign with someone else too.

I'm not sure what O'Mahoney can learn from a 33/4 year old with mostly NL experience.

AI can oxf*rd off.

A cheeky bid might clinch the deal.

That the rectangular shaped thing with a net hanging from it is a goal and it his is aim to put footballs in it…..

Could be a Yann Kermogant style signing. Some players hit a purple patch in their 30s.

I’d be happy with this signing. He has been a consistent goal scorer for a while and he gets under the skin of defenders.

Yann Kermorgant had a track record in our division, not one season in the division below.

25 goal last year in the league below, player of the year and golden boot winner too.

Worth a shout if we can pick up for low fee and wages won't be an issue.

Anyway, don’t think Reading have the necessary financials to persuade Bromley that they want to sell.

Cheek has an incredible National League record and then stepped up to L2 last season seamlessly.

£300K would seem a fair price but at age 34 I doubt we would take the risk - but it does make you wonder why no one has ever given him a go at a higher level. Clubs might have missed a gem.

I'm sorry? I think you've made a mistake my fine friend.
