Good to hear we've rejected that, assuming that report is accurate.

Go away, come back when you have a reasonable offer

Big clubs like that come knocking, I fear it won't be long...

Triple that, and maybe we'll talk. But if he wants to go, he can do better than Oxford.

Agreed he has more chance of being in the championship with us next season than with Oxford…

Yep glad we turned it down - looks like Oxford have signed other midfielders now, so perhaps unlikely to come back.

We will be a situation this summer though where we will either have to cash in on Savage or try and tie him down to a new deal as next season is the last of his current deal.

I don't know how attractive it is anyway. Smart money is we're both L1 next season, and if Savage thinks it's time to test himself in the Championship he's better waiting until the summer where he may have more options. Agree it's a case or extend or sell with him at the end of the season. While he's not our most key player, I'd love to see a payrise and new contract as I do think he's got the potential to have a Championship career.

A strong argument to say unless someone bids silly money we just keep him whether he extends his contract or not because of this

Would he be under 24 end of next season? If so we’d get money anyway

Ultimately it comes down to offers on the table. Just because he only has 12 months left, doesn't mean we should just accept anything. But if we get an offer of >£1m or so, that is still decent money in L1 even with the sell on. Knibbs was rumoured £1.8m, and you'd be mad to turn an offer like that down.

But unless something in that region turns up rejecting what basically amounts to £250k for a class younger player is the correct thing to do. Personally I’d already be sounding Charlie out about signing a new deal (though I presume we couldn’t cut the sell on element out of a new deal without paying off ManU).

He's far too good for shitty Oxford. He can do a lot better.

Whilst he is IMHO a far less important player than Pereira or Wing the sell-on clause makes this a non-starter.
We need him for either a relegation scrap or a push up the table and replacements are difficult to get this time of year.

I'm enjoying all the comments needing him for next year's potential relegation battle or that we're more likely to be in the Championship next season than Oxford.

You can get 20/1 on us being promoted which is an accurate reflection for me. Yes we're on a good run, but we need to continue maintaining 2 ppg to make the top 6 which is a tall order, and then we need to win them which we never do.

He's important and very good. But we already have ready made replacements in Fraser and Rinomhota, so personally, I don't think we'd need to replace him immediately.

We haven't seen how mobile Rino is and Fraser looks a bit pedestrian so I do think we would need to replace him (ideally)with a player who gets around the pitch as much as he does.

Rinomhota was Cardiff's PotS last year in the Championship... we don’t need to see his mobility

Based majorly on his games at RB - of course he could do a job if Savage goes.

Being reported that Oxford will come back with an improved bid - the way football works these days, you can only imagine they are getting encouragement from Savage's agent that his client will strongly consider the move if a deal can be struck.

Things can change in 8 months and Cardiff obviously weren't that fussed about keeping him even if he was their player of the season.
Let's just hope , when we eventually get to see him, that he is somewhere near how he was with us before and if so he would be an asset to this team.

As we only keep 50% I just cannot see less than 3M being worth even considering. Savage would be a great loss and would have to be replaced which would cost money and so unless the owners are really skint, they would be crazy to sell for less.
