Sutekh neither player is going to turn down these opportunities.
Unless it's beneficial to stay until the end of the season, not sure when they're out of contract but could potentially negotiate a better deal leaving on a free/tribunal determined fee.

Also worth noting that for academy grown players there is no book value for them on the accounts, so it's 100% profit whereas if we sold a player we signed on a fee we would have to take the amortization hit now. (If you sign a player on a 5 year contract you can spread the transfer fee in the accounts over the 5 year period, if you sell that player you have to take all the cost outstanding in the year of sale).

It's how Chelsea have signed so many players, they're spreading the transfer fees over 5+ years (The Premier League have since capped this at 5 years) and then sold Mason Mount for £50m to Man Utd and taken that as £50m profit in year 1 as he has no transfer fee on their books.

Obviously cash and profit are not the same thing.

No idea how reputable this account is, but it's reporting £300k as a combined fee. Which should cover us for 2 months at most? So bad it almost feels vindictive.

If it is £300k for both then that's disappointing, but hopefully we'll have a sell on clause for both of them. If that figures is true, it just shows how desperate the club is for money right now.

If it is true then I hope people in the club remember how certain clubs took advantage of us in our current state, and when the boot is on the other foot, make sure we give it back to them..........

he without sin cast the first stone. We did exactly this for Dave Kitson from Cambridge. He was valued at 3 mill then itv digital collapsed and they were so desperate we got him for 150k

Pretty sure the boot was on the other foot once. I think Kitson has said in the past we got him for peanuts because Cambridge were up shit creek.

We also bought out Cork's sell on clause for Doyle when they were desperate for the cash. I doubt it was an act of kindness on our part.

Indeed. They would've got £650k had they been able to hold on for nine months or so, instead of £250k. Clubs will take advantage as they know we've got no negotiating leverage.

There was also that business with us not paying York one of the sales clauses from when we bought Murty, because their badly-worded deal meant it only legally applied for the duration of that particular contract for Murty, and didn't count when he signed a new one. At least we paid up in the end, I believe.

They also know that nobody actually at the club is dealing with these deals. If it was Bowen in charge of transfers, I'm sure he'd be asking more.

Mostly true, but then you also have to remember that the ITV digital fiasco was a akin to a sudden huge crash in the housing market. Every club was affected, not just Cambridge, making the previously touted transfer fees rather unrealistic.

TBF we felt so guilty we then overpaid on Alan Bennett and Dave Mooney, who both barely played for us.

Still seems bizarre that a player who has struggled to get into a League 1 team this year is heading to the Premier League (if only for a few months). What are the Luton fans saying?

Well, he is coming straight back here so he won't likely ever play in the PL. He's still what, 23, and with a decent level of apps at Champ level behind him. If/when they go down, he will likely be an integral part of the squad/team and young enough that if he does well could see his value increase or be good enough for the PL in 2 or 3 years time, should then return.

Luton will be aware his struggle to get a start is more to do with the manager than the player. Our record with him is much better than without.

Wouldn't be so sure on that.

Well that has been widely reported as being the case but we'll see I guess.

Is Abbey heading to Luton or is it Forest? It would be quite something if Luton were to have a starting defensive trio of Holmes, Abbey and Osho in the PL having picked all 3 up for peanuts from us. It's a situation that would be unlikely to keep them in the PL however.
