GDPR and the loyalty points

by Greatwesternline » 11 Apr 2024 11:21

Anyone noticed that you can no longer see how many points your friends and family have without emailing the ticket office?

Interesting that they would give someone this info about someone else over email without that person's concent.

But more interestingly, i can see all the purchases that my connected accounts make and who they went with.

This is very interesting because i can see a Certain Mr A and a certain Mr S went to an away game together, but didnt put it in the group whatsapp.

Those two people are former best friends with benefits, but now have separate partners. One wonders why they may have kept quite about a weekend away together......

This has been like this for 5 years now since they upgraded the system. They do say:

LOYALTY POINT HISTORY - UNFORTUNATELY YOU ARE UNABLE TO VIEW THE POINTS TOTALS FOR YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY, BUT WE HOPE TO PROVIDE THIS IN A LATER RELEASE OF OUR TICKETING PROVIDERS SOFTWARE. IN THE MEANTIME, PLEASE EMAIL SALES@READINGFC.CO.UK

Maybe if someone from STAR is reading they can take this up with the club as to why it's taken so long to get this rolled out again.

Maybe now would be a good time:

SeatGeek, the high-growth technology platform transforming the live event experience for fans, teams and venues, today announced a multi-year renewal with Reading FC of the EFL League One. The renewal extends SeatGeek’s role as the club’s primary ticketing technology partner.

"For several seasons now, we have worked closely with SeatGeek to elevate the ticket-buying experience for our fans and commercial objectives," said Paul Collins, Head of Ticketing at Reading FC. “We’ve seen tangible benefits and results of this partnership and look forward to working closely with SeatGeek going forward.”

After five successful years, Reading FC has committed to extending its partnership with SeatGeek, underscoring both parties’ commitment to enhancing digital ticketing by fast-tracking the adoption of Mobile Season Tickets and Match Tickets – making certain supporters at Select Car Leasing Stadium enjoy an elevated ticket-buying, and overall match day, experience.

"Reading FC is a club built on decades of rich history and steadfast supporter devotion," said Peter Joyce, Managing Director, EMEA at SeatGeek. "When we first began our journey with Reading five years ago, we knew we’d be working with a team dedicated to providing those visiting Select Car Leasing Stadium with a best-in-class match day experience. Fast-forward to today, and we are proud of the strength of our partnership with the shared desire to deliver an unparalleled ticketing experience to those in the stands, as well as the back-office, and we look forward to the exciting future ahead.”

This decision is rooted not only in the innovation behind SeatGeek's backend technology but also in its proven success in collaborating with premier sports organizations across the United Kingdom. Today, SeatGeek’s UK portfolio includes nearly half of the English Premier League (EPL), including Manchester City, Liverpool, and Newcastle United, as well as clubs across the EFL Championship, including Leicester City, Leeds United, Ipswich Town and Stoke City.

Across the pond, the company also works with several clubs within Major League Soccer (MLS), the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and the United Soccer League (USL). SeatGeek is also the league-wide partner of the USL and the recently announced USL Super League.

It would be good if they resolved that issue, shouldn't be too difficult to resolve (as it should simply be outputting a figure from the club's database), however I would say I'm happy they've had their deal extended. As a user, they seem to provide a good ticketing website service and the alternatives seem much worse than what we've got now.

A sign that the club is back in business. Making new long term business commitments.

not really sure why we can't do stuff like this in house to be honest. What are they offering that we didn't do already before?

Presumably buying an off the shelf product is a lot cheaper than employing an IT contractor to start one from scratch, and maintain it.

How did we do it before these guys came on board. Never saw any problems or issues prior to getting these guys in. Very little has changed n the ticketing world other than adding tickets to respective phone wallets.

Maybe the old system didnt work on a smartphone?

If this company charges like £5k a year to do it all then that's a lot cheaper than employing someone. I was impressed that the Bristol Away allocation despite being a different club stadium still worked on our portal. It shows the ticketing portals of different clubs can talk to each other.

I'd be surprised if it was as little as £5K a year but your point still stands.

It's also all about core competences. Someone in-house dabbling with it will never be able to do the job as well as a team of specialists who do it every day, so why even try? Let the staff in-house concentrate on what they're there for, rather than trying to be masters of all trades.
