They lost because Neuer lost concentration and spilled the ball. If he scoops that like normal, another long punt up front and another chance for defence to be reset. The shot from Madrid that led to the 1st goal was a sign of a team resorting to hopeful punts.

Also, Kane is 30, he looked pretty exhausted, with 5 minutes to go of normal time, bringing on fresh strikers to hold up the ball made perfect sense. Muller himself is a 2x joint top goal scorer in a world cup.

They lost because all night long they couldnt string any attacks together. They were knackered from having played 3 days ago, compared to a 7 day rest for Madrid's starting 11.

Their injury time disallowed goal was a tad though
