paultheroyal Not sure what has happened but there are some excellent attendances in non league this season. People just getting out more post lockdown?

Possibly or perhaps more people are getting hacked off with just how cr@p the professional game is these days and would rather have the “enjoyment” of football more akin to what it was 30/40/50 years ago.

(no different now, than ever before, I’m sure, but) A lot of ex pro’s and local amateur legends playing part- utime these days, possibly.

The non-league has decent(ish) media coverage these days

A fair few ‘phoenix and fans clubs’ bolstering gates

That and the cost, hassle and unnecessary/unwanted razzamataz of attending the pro game...

Whatever, it’s great to see

Heard earlier that South Shields in the 7th tier are a fully professional club. What is the lowest ranked pro club?

– glad the ‘Atom Men’ somehow managed to turn around their form after two dreadful openers - losing 2-9 & 0-5
– I witnessed the 2nd of these at Waterside Pk (Thatcham) last Wed v Berks County and they collapsed 2nd half and looked short of confidence and fight. Local lad (b. Mortimer) and ex-pro David Tuttle (Spuds/Blades and Pal@rse) now has the reins here - he's got quite a challenge but his managerial career specializes in taking up virtually 'lost' causes - has to be said not always with the most positive of outcomes under his tenure. Harpenden Town 3-0 Aylesbury Vale Dynamos
London Colney 0-4 Risborough Rangers
New Salamis Ab Flackwell Heath was 2-0 to NS @ HT – injury to Aiden Higgs FH player on 54’
SSM1
Amersham Town 2-5 Wellingborough Whitworth
Thame United Reserves 1-2 Ampthill Town

- Dipped into this league, which has benefited from an influx from the southern parts of the UCL for 21-22 - so makes for an interesting new mix of clubs @ STEP05/06: much as the CCL & Hellenic have undertaken new challengers from East and West of their former 'footprints' respectively.
- Drove up to an area very rich in STEP05/06 clubs sat clustered around the relative giants of AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Kettering – some of whom have hosted their more senior nomadic neighbours.
- Went to the furthest NE suburbs of Northampton for :
Northampton Sileby Rangers 1-1 Langford – entertaining fare and a very plush re-furbed ground with a large SCP Grant Funded clubhouse (Fernie Fields) set handily enough directly off of the A5076 close to the A45.

WESSP
Hamworthy United 3-0 Alton
Portland United 4-2 Alresford Town
WESS1
Andover Town 1-3 Folland Sports
East Cowes Victoria 5-0 Fleet Spurs hadn’t spotted fixture reversal

Sutekh No game for Slough?

..No - they are the 'spare' this in round of fixtures , with 21 clubs in NAT-S..

...I was then about to add that the division above (NAT) was the same with 23 sides this term ..... but for some reason there seem to be three inactive clubs tomorrow. .... Grimsby, Solihull & Stockport? :?

...and then spotted the 'Hatters/Cobras' ? host the 'Mariners' on Tue night - leaving the 'Moors', 'twiddling their studs' as it were.

...round-up of this AM/PMs games

Monday 30th August Bank Holiday Monday

NAT
Aldershot Town 1-2 Yeovil Town – att 2,073 - Sh!ts levelled on 75' only to be beaten by a late ‘Glovers’ pen
Barnet 0-2 Dagenham & Redbridge – Daggers stay on 100% as do Chesterfield & Boreham Wd who registered victories at Dover and Kings Lynn respectively
Torquay United 0-4 Woking'Cards' 2 up inside 5‘. 'Gulls' reduced to 10 men mid-way through 1st half made for a comfortable win and leaves the host without a win this season so far.
Wealdstone 0-0 Southend United att 2151 – by some accounts ‘Stones’ unlucky not to prevail
Weymouth 3-1 Maidenhead United :? :( poor result/performance
NATN
Brackley Town 2-1 Leamington - impressive start from the Saints - sit joint top with 4 from 4 - three of which have been away
NATS
Billericay Town 2-2 Braintree Town
Chelmsford City 0-0 Ebbsfleet United
Chippenham Town 1-0 Havant & Waterlooville
Dartford 3-1 Eastbourne Borough – ‘Darts’ the only side with a perfect record lead by 2 pts from Maidstone
Dorking Wanderers 1-2 Hungerford Town ‘Crusaders’ turn the game around early 2nd half with 2 in 5’ (Callum Willmoth & Nana Kyei) – had fallen behind to a spot-kick just before H/T.
Hampton & Richmond Borough 1-1 Maidstone United att 862
Hemel Hempstead Town 0-6 Dulwich Hamlet
Oxford City 5-1 Bath City
Tonbridge Angels Ab St Albans City – serious injury to a visiting player, in the last 5’ of the match - with the score 0-1.
Welling United 2-1 Concord Rangers – first points for ‘Wings’

SLP-C
Stratford Town 0-1 Banbury United
SLP-S
19.45 Beaconsfield Town v Hayes & Yeading United @ Kings Langley - latest 0-1 at H/T
- update: lead doubled on 60' and now in the last 5' of the match - would keep HandY top with 5 wins from 5.
FT 0-2 att 224

Chesham United 1-1 Kings Langley att 484
Hartley Wintney 0-1 Gosport Borough att 345
Swindon Supermarine 5-2 Farnborough – att 373
- Got to this for my 2nd game – decided it had the appeal of a top-table clash (well - 6th v 2nd) but was surprisingly one-sided
- ‘boro had wasted a few early opportunities having looked much brighter side in the first 10’.
- Once ‘marine got into their stride they look very potent on their own patch – visitors lost heart and some discipline 2nd half.

Walton Casuals 0-5 Metropolitan Police – Liam Ferdinand on target for the Ol’ Bill having ceased being a ‘Mole’ in June this year?
SL1-C
Didcot Town 1-0 Wantage Town att 312 – Connor Ferguson early in the 1st half with the only goal
Kidlington 1-1 North Leigh
Thame United 1-2 Aylesbury United
SL1-S
Sholing 2-0 Winchester att 340

IL-P
Corinthian-Casuals 0-1 Kingstonian att 542
Leatherhead 0-3 Carshalton Athletic att 506
IL1-SC
Bedfont Sports 1-1 Uxbridge
Binfield 1-3 Bracknell Town att 671 – 'Moles' grabbed the lead on 3’, through Helmore but ‘Robins’ were ahead by the break, with goals from Joe Grant and a Seb Bowerman pen – Grant stretched the lead around the hour mark

Chalfont St Peter 0-2 Marlow
Hanwell Town 2-1 Northwood
Staines Town 0-5 Ashford Town (Middx)
Thatcham Town 2-3 Basingstoke Town att 451 – ‘Dragons’ with 3 from 3 head the early table from Bracknell and Uxbridge – Marlow are back in 6th with game in hand also on 100%
Westfield 1-1 Chertsey Town att 188

CCL-PN mostly 11:30 KOs
Abbey Rangers 1-0 Spelthorne Sports
Burnham
1-1 CB Hounslow United
Egham Town
2-1 Edgware Town
North Greenford United 0-2 Wembley
Southall 2-3 St Panteleimon - St P. grab top spot
Tadley Calleva 1-1 Reading City
Windso
r 2-1 Virginia Water
- ‘Sumas’ not in action today welcome Ascot to Lowther Rd on Tue evening

CCL-PS
Balham 1-1 AFC Croydon Athletic
Banstead Athletic 2-2 Redhill
Beckenham Town 3-0 Raynes Park Vale
Farnham Town 0-1 Badshot Lea
Fleet Town
2-1 Knaphill
Frimley Green
1-2 Camberley Town
Guildford City
0-2 Sheerwater
CCL-1
Bagshot 3-1 Cove
Bedfont & Feltham 2-0 AFC Hayes
Enfield Borough 3-2 Kensington & Ealing Borough
Eversley & California 1-2 AFC Aldermaston
Hillingdon Borough 1-2 Hilltop
Langley 3-3 Chalvey Sports
London Lions 3-4 Rayners Lane
London Samurai Rovers 1-3 British Airways
Sandhurst Town 1-2 Berks County
Wallingford Town PP Woodley United – lucky I didn’t venture here for my PM game - tho probably would still have had time in hand to get across to Diddy without missing much – was a late morning call off by Woodley – who couldn’t raise a side?

HELLP
Shrivenham 0-1 Royal Wootton Bassett Town att 187
HELL1
Clanfield 85 1-2 Cheltenham Saracens
Milton United 4-0 Abingdon United – that’s 24 goals in 6 home games so far this season for Milton – strangely they are yet to play away – their only scheduled fixture to date away from ‘The Heights’ was at Hereford Pegasus where they cried off, citing insufficient numbers?

SCL-1 (Southern Combination League Division One - ex Sussex league) 11:00 KO
Godalming Town 1-0 Oakwood
- Chose this as my AM ‘starter’ was a fairly even contest settled in the hosts favour around the hour mark.
- Didn’t attempt a proper headcount but seemed like a fair number – close to/just nudging three figures…
- No draught beer options (too early in the season) – don’t think the ’pump’ offerings here are often up to much anyway – they do usually have a decent selection of local bottled brews (Hogs Back) – not disappointed - had a bottle of BlindSpot from (very) nearby Loxhill
- sadly they don’t have many helpers signed up yet either so none of the usual food menu available - which is often good here – hence my choice – and by HT they’d run out of what they did have.
- The 11:00 KO gave me a wider scope for the PM game too – hence I decided on the SLP-S table-topper at Supermarine above.

Bracknell looked good. Binfield should be ok in the division though, they won't play against a team like Bracknell every week. Decent game.

Brilliant 100% start including cup for Basingstoke- watching them a lot more this season and proving to be an excellent team. Could turn heads this season and mount a title challenge. Game against Bracknell will be huge.

Decent crowd expected for the cup game.

Was at Binfield too. After a good start, Bracknell increased their domination the more the game progressed. Too strong in the end.

Chatting to a regular, im told the Att of 671 was a club record by quite some distance. Not sure how they are going to cope with attendances like that once the grass parking on pitch 2 is out of the equation.

I believe they are going to build on some land that is behind the 9 v 9 pitch eventually, going to put a car park in and possibly a changing room for the juniors. There was some talk of making pitch 2 a 3G but I last heard about that about a year ago and not heard anything since. A lot depends on a grant for that I believe.

With Thatcham home attendances around the 150 mark, thats an excellent 300 away following from Basingstoke, admittedly on their doorstep. Get this ground debacle sorted and this club will certainly be turning a corner.

- nipped up to Wilkes Pk on Tue evening but Marcus's 'Heathens' did not have their shooting boots on and fell to a 3rd straight league defeat this season.
- they dominated play for long spells vs London Colney: after some initial bright movement from the visitors which saw them grab a lead - following a horrendous playing-around-at-the-back type mix-up in the first 10'.
- Flackwell even had Mitch Parker in their line-up as the main striker - not sure if that's on a dual reg or whether he's already departed Reading City?

Yesterday's results from NL:

Saturday 4th September

FA Cup Preliminary – re-match
Barking 3-2 Ilford

FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round STEP03 sides join in at this stage ....
45 Hadley 1-1 Enfield
46 Cambridge City 1-3 East Thurrock United
47 Enfield Town 2-1 Dereham Town
48 Bury Town 1-4 Norwich United
49 Wingate & Finchley 1-1 Basildon United
50 Potton United 0-1 A.F.C. Sudbury
51 Colney Heath 0-4 Ware
52 Corby Town 1-0 Hendon
53 Felixstowe & Walton United 1-3 Great Wakering Rovers
54 {SUN} Biggleswade v A.F.C. Dunstable
55 Leiston 3-2 Brightlingsea Regent
57 Hornchurch 1-1 Barton Rovers
58 Biggleswade Town 0-3 Hitchin Town
59 Kings Langley 3-2 Romford
60 Little Oakley 2-1 Kirkley & Pakefield
61 Stowmarket Town 2-1 Potters Bar Town – att 391
- Got here – just about – M’ways en route were an absolute pain: from the M4 being bunged up at the Orbital junction – I knew there could be tailbacks from anywhere 8/9 eastwards.
- took A4 to A404 – then crawled up to Handy Cross for M40  then all was fairly OK and looking promising for arrival time until the bottom of the M11. 'Phantom' roadworks lane closures - very slow N. to Stansted - Services completely rammed too which delayed us further (should have re-fuelled earlier but ageing bladders dictated a stop was necessary anyway) :(
- was completely ‘stuffed’ s’bound for the return journey - where there had been a breakdown in the same area – veered off east on the A120 at Bps Stortford and came back down to M25 via Ware & Cheshunt - home by about 20:00.
- Pleasant enough ground for newcomers to STEP04 and they out-tussled PBT from a division above.
- Nice bar area - fairly decent cooked/assembled to order food – Badges on request from behind the bar.

62 Mulbarton Wanderers 2-2 Welwyn Garden City
63 Arlesey Town 0-5 Bowers & Pitsea
64 Walthamstow 1-0 Berkhamsted

93 Cray Wanderers 1-3 Sutton Common Rovers
94 Hayes & Yeading United 4-3 Bognor Regis Town

106 Kidlington 2-3 Bishop's Cleeve
107 Basingstoke Town 4-2 Bridgwater United att 552
108 Highworth Town 1-1 Shaftesbury
109 Weston super Mare 2-2 Flackwell Heath att 418 - great result for 'Heathens' at a side two STEPS above them, FH led twice but were under siege late on
- was Marcus Richardson's 150th game in charge :)
- replay on Tuesday night

110 Banbury United 1-0 Ardley United att 713
111 Gosport Borough 2-1 Plymouth Parkway
112 Shepton Mallet 1-8 {EIGHT} Taunton Town
113 Barnstaple Town 0-1 Lymington Town
114 Poole Town 4-4 Swindon Supermarine
115 Dorchester Town 1-3 Yate Town
116 Longlevens 2-1 Alresford Town
117 Cirencester Town 3-0 Easington Sports
118 Blackfield & Langley 0-3 Wimborne Town
119 Truro City 3-1 Exmouth Town - att was given only 226 - probably cos they are currently 'lodging' again - this time a good hour-and-a-half away up at Plymouth Parkway - indeed was a shorter trip for the 'visiting fans' :?

120 Alton 1-3 Sholing - att 538  – bet that was a squeeze at Anstey Park - from memory it isn't the roomiest of grounds - even though it's a re-build/re-furb
121 Salisbury 0-2 Tiverton Town

League
NAT
Eastleigh 3-3 King's Lynn Town
Maidenhead United 3-4 Torquay United –att 1,495 'Magpies' were four down at H/T but didn’t quite manage the full comeback – though got their 3rd with about 25’ left.
Notts County 3-2 Aldershot Town
NATN
Blyth Spartans 0-0 Brackley Town - 'Saints' still joint top with AFC Fylde - who were also held yesterday at Kettering
NATS
Bath City 1-3 Dartford
Chelmsford City 2-2 Dorking Wanderers
Concord Rangers 1-0 Hemel Hempstead Town
Eastbourne Borough 2-2 Dulwich Hamlet
Ebbsfleet United 1-2 Havant & Waterlooville
Oxford City 1-3 Maidstone United
St Albans City 1-1 Chippenham Town
Tonbridge Angels 1-1 Hampton & Richmond Borough
Welling United 2-2 Slough Town – ‘Rebels’ behind twice grab a late draw (88’ Ryan Bird)

SL1-C
North Leigh 2-0 Wantage Town
SL1-S
Slimbridge 0-4 Winchester City 2 in each half for City

CCL-PN
Burnham 0-5 St Panteleimon
CB Hounslow United 0-7 {SEVEN} Southall
Holyport
0-3 Edgware Town
Tadley Calleva 0-3 Hanworth Villa
Virginia Water 0-4 North Greenford United
Wembley 3-0 Wokingham & Emmbrook
- 'Sumas' sit bottom without a point so far but four of their 5 matches to date, have been against tough opponents, all of whom may be expected to challenge for the title.
- leaders are the free-scoring Greeks - St Panteleimon - Abbey Rgrs and Hanworth are within reach - indeed 'Villa' have a couple of games in hand and are the only other side (than St P.) unbeaten. Windsor are handily placed in the chasing pack.

CCL-PS
AFC Croydon Athletic 2-0 Frimley Green
Beckenham Town 1-0 Sheerwater
Colliers Wood United 1-3 Farnham Town
Guildford City
0-2 Horley Town
Knaphill 2-2 Banstead Athletic
Raynes Park Vale 0-2 Badshot Lea
- 'Baggy Lea' top the early table here, with expected big-hitters Beckenham tucked in a couple of points behind - Jersey Bulls may well be among the challengers too once they build some momentum - have only played three (LWD) - they are certainly progressing well in the Cup hammering a side from the step above yesterday

CCL-1
Bedfont & Feltham 4-0 AFC Aldermaston
Cove 0-6 Enfield Borough
Eversley & California 3-2 Rayners Lane
FC Deportivo Galicia 3-3 Hilltop - visitors are currently the league leaders here - though Wallingford and Sandhurst are well-placed not far behind
- primarily a Somali-immigrant side formed in the mid-noughties and promoted this season from the Middlesex County League
- currently groundsharing at Hillingdon's Middlesex Stadium.
- take their bow in the FA Vase next Saturday at 'home' to Langley.

Hillingdon Borough 0-1 Kensington & Ealing Borough
London Lions 4-1 Langley
London Samurai Rovers 1-2 Chalvey Sports
Sandhurst Town
3-0 AFC Hayes
Wallingford Town 6-2 British Airways
Woodley United 3-2 Berks County

HELLP
Royal Wootton Bassett Town 2-0 Thornbury Town - RWBT up in 2nd place but Bristol-based Cribbs, shoved over from last season's Western League, are tearing away at the top 7 pts clear.

HELL-1
Cheltenham Saracens 3-1 Abingdon United - bit of a concern that what appeared to be quite a strong Ab U from last term have failed to gain a point yet in the much re-structured Div One
- this has a much wider footprint now including some strong sides from the Midlands & West. They (Ab U) may finally prosper midweek, with the visit of similarly pointless Bourton Rovers, who so far are shipping goals at just under 6 a game. :o

Studley 3-2 Milton United

SSMP
Leighton Town {SEVEN} 7-1 Holmer Green
London Colney 1-0 Aylesbury Vale Dynamos
Risborough Rangers
2-1 Dunstable Town
SSM1
Letchworth Garden City Eagles 1-3 Long Crendon
Penn & Tylers Green
3-4 Ampthill Town
Raunds Town 4-3 Amersham Town

WESS1
Andover New Street 5-0 East Cowes Victoria
Ash United 0-2 Downton
Folland Sports 4-2 Fleet Spurs
Millbrook 1-7 {SEVEN} Andover Town
Petersfield Town
0-3 Bemerton Heath Harlequins
Whitchurch United 1-2 Infinity

Dredging down into the footballing depths of nothingness (sorry Zip and your leek-head Co.), the JD Welsh Cup.

Bala Town 17 (seventeen) Brymbo 1 ....Brymbo had Bala on the ropes at 1-1 at some stage.
