Even if we'd matched any bid, he was always going to go with Brum due to who their manager is, so it's not worth getting your knickers in a twist about.

Agreed.

This was one potential signing that never had any potential at all!

Coppelled Streets
loyalroyal4life he's going to bham for around £5.5 mill. Think he's a quality player but cant see us splashing out that sort of money

Exactly, but if we were serious about progressing, this is the sort of player we need.

True but can't see it happening tbh

If he can't agree terms with Birmingham it is unlikely he'll agree terms with tight ole Reading.

Please let it be us. Let there be a ray of genuine class in this transfer window of long-shot 'bargains'.

I don't get this obssession with buying quality players in positions we arn;'t in any particularly urgent need of reinforcement when we have plenty of glaringly obvious gaping holes that need filling elsewhere.

Tbh, I agree, which makes the signing of two utility midfielders, the aborted signing of a third such midfielder, and the trial of a goalkeeper, all the more confusing.

I disagree with that last bit. Udo looked attacking and seemed to be able to play wing or central, where we have big problems. Though I still haven't seen anthing that says we were actually after him outside a Sky sports report. I've also seen nothing to indicate we have or will sign Kebe and nobody seems to know where he plays.

Marek seems to me to perfectly fit our big Sidwell sized gap and I have high hopes for him. The Keeper seems to be one of those opportunistic things and if he's free there's no harm for the potential of a quality experienced replacement for Marcus.

Why does the fact that a player might cost something stop us signing other players to replace those we already have (I am thinking Taylor, for instance, who people say would be a pointless signing as we already have 'enough options').

At his best, I'd take Taylor above Hunt or Convey.

And as Tredder says - and again to pick up on your criticism of those who want Henry in the team despite not watching him play much - how do you know Marek fits the bill? If it was Jason Koumas, then sure, we would know, but surely not Matejovsky.

The less you know, the easier it is to have an opinion.

Play consistently well enough on Portsmouth's left side last season to be mentioned around possible England call-ups. Unfortunately for Taylor, left-back, which is where he had played most of his career is a spot where England has a lot of competition.

Probably not seen as quite good enough on the ball to play left side of midfield for England, but certainly good enough for the Premiership.
