Sustain the Game!

The Covid-19 situation has made the crisis in football governance and finance even worse. But this could mean it’s a great time for change. The campaign is backed by supporters’ gr...

Re: STAR Membership rolls over for free

As 2019-20 disappears over the horizon and 2020-21 edges into view, albeit through a fog of uncertainty, we thought it was timely to give the post above a bump. And to say that there is a cut-off date for this offer of 1st September 2020. So if you're a 2019-20 STAR member and you haven't yet rejoin...

Re: Next seasons kit choice?

The club was officially formed Christmas Day 1871. So technically the season after next is 150 years. There is no evidence for this either. If it's 'official' it's just the club making it up. We can be pretty sure it was formed sometime between Nov 1871 and Feb 1872 and the FA Annual of 1873 gives ...

Re: 25 years ago today

You wonder if it’s a gypsy curse or something. One meaningless Symod Cup win(though I did enjoy the day);followed by four play off horlicks and an FA Cup semi final defeat.Perhaps we should swing a dead cat and bury it at the Mad Stad, and at Elm Park Housing estate for good measure. You can imagine ...

STAR Membership rolls over for free

At STAR we’re well aware of all the uncertainties surrounding the next football season – whenever that starts. So we’ve decided to make one thing clear. We are extending – free of charge – membership of STAR to all our 1700+ 2019-20 members for a further year, until 30 June 2021. This is because we ...

Re: Finance

This message is copied from the STAR Forum, where many fear to (or at least don't) tread. It does relate to the finance topic but Reading Matter contains more than that as you might see... The 2020 edition of 20-page Reading Matter is now out and can be accessed via pdf download from our website htt...

Re: Finance

I see Star have done their usual, thing of getting someone who knows what they are talking about to look at the accounts and give their view (fair chance it is someone who has already posted). Presents a rather less apocalyptic view of things which is nice. While I think everyone would prefer it if ...

There is a very good analysis of the accounts on the STAR website on the News tab. It has been written in a very easy to understand way so go and have a look.

Re: Old Reading Footage on VHS/film/Youtube

I have a full match VHS of Exeter 4 Reading 6 from 93/94. Got it from Exeter somehow. Would gladly donate it to the cause. I know a man who's desperate to have this as his copy was lost when lent to the club! We'll create some DVDs from it and send one back to you and keep another for the archive. ...

[Tony Le Mesmer: There is a Royals Gems for 84-86 I believe, although sadly the 85-86 winning run is not part of it due to Strike Action.] Yes, I can see that now on the fella's promotional leaflet - such Gems as games v Bognor, Wealdstone and New Zealand but sadly not the 4-3 v Plymouth or the 2-2 ...

Re: Old Reading Footage on VHS/film/Youtube

Good on yer, all those contributing to this thread. There is an effort underway to try and catalogue and capture all Reading's recorded match footage. The bit STAR is focussing on at the moment is the pre Madstad (1998) era. But one element this thread could also help with is the list club-produced ...

Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

Not before November? It definitely can't be Xmas Day then. Eh? There was interest in setting up football clubs locally in Nov / Dec 1871 - because the FA Cup had just started with Marlow and Maidenhead competing. Henley were formed about this time. It's theoretically possible that Reading could hav...

Re: The Non - League thread

Confirmed. All football below the National League has been ended. All results of this season have been expunged. Therefore no relegation from National Leagues North and South this season and everyone will be they were this season at the start of next season whenever that actually happens. https://w...
