Re: The Bundesliga Hobnob battle thread 19/20

Interesting* stat from an admittedly very small sample but home teams lost a form of advantage this weekend in that refs seemed to be more balanced in the decisions they gave. On average before the lockdown, home teams on average got 15 more fouls awarded and the away team saw more cards. Could be ...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

If we look at the actual numbers we will see that the logarithmic multiplier feeds back a negative correlation into the daily rate (plus or minus rate multiplier) depending on what factor you choose. It's not inconceivable therefore that some time in the next 3 weeks there will be a move toward a c...

Re: Reading FC 2018/19 accounts

There is a very good analysis of the accounts on the STAR website on the News tab. It has been written in a very easy to understand way so go and have a look. It is and there’s a link to it on the Finance thread https://star-reading.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Reading-FC-Notes-from-the-accounts-...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

I'm quite worried that mass gatherings are going to be banned until 2021. Mike Skinner was suggesting that he's heard , that no live concerts etc. are gonna happen , and I deduce that'll mean all the sports stuff etc. will be off   I hope he's wrong. I've just check that FIFA are sugge...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

From the Guardian today: For the “Covid-19 case cluster study”, scientists from the University of Bonn went back to the town that had the first two fatalities from the virus in Germany and interviewed and tested 1,000 residents. Researchers are also trying to work out exactly how the virus got tran...

Re: Finance

The championship reminds me of those Icelandic banks before the financial crash in 2008. They played with the big boys and ended up with liabilities several orders of magnitude greater than the economy of Iceland itself, so when it all came crashing down, Iceland couldn't bail them out... Reading F...

FAO Snowball https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/12/opinion/sunday/coronavirus-statistics.html Ho-Ho. I believe the opposite is true, BTW (and it's not causality). Those who are anxious may seek out the stats. That doesn't mean those who seek out the stats are anxious. Philosophy and Logic 101. (Yes, I...

Re: Finance

The only upside of the club getting into such financial difficulty and the consequent penalties whatever they turn out to be is that we are recently such a poor side.

Imagine if this was 2006 - we'd be gutted

Re: Euro 2020

Thinking about the Follow your Team tickets that have to be paid for up front there is a hell of a lot of money held by the organisers. In effect the seats have been sold 20 or so times over. So they hold all that money, probably into millions, from December 2019 until the games start. And with a C...

I know football is gentrifying but I think we're a long way from football fans having a slash at half time being indicative of general hygiene standards. Why not? It's a cross section of the population same as people gathered in pubs and clubs, cinemas and theatres. I don't think hand washing is no...
