Re: VAR

It was a massive gaffe tbh and the main issue for me is that the officials are obviously not looking at this sort of thing properly in real time, knowing GDS has got their back. Having said that Hawkeye, unlike VAR, has proven to be pretty reliable in something like 9000 games, I just wish they'd b...

Re: Finance

Why would they do that ? Utterly unfair. You are advocating making the game even more biased in favour of bigger clubs. They should allow owners to invest as much money as they like, why should an owner not throw their own cash into their own club? It should be regulated to prevent owners crippling...

Re: Finance

EVery club ‘exploits’ the system and it would be shocking if they didn’t. There is a difference between making sure you run your business to maximise what the rules allow you to do and actually being fraudulent.... Not every club has sold their ground and training ground to a related party to gener...

Re: Finance

But there will always be a Derby, Wolves and Villa though who look (and succeed) in breaking or exploiting the system. Football accounting is a sham and hidden novelties like image rights/shirt sales and other hidden payments can easily be used as a get around salary caps......I believe german club...

Re: Finance

Not sure why’d you want to stop people who have worked their backsides off since they were kids to get to (nearly) the top of their profession earning a decent wage. 100k isn’t an especially large amount nowadays, esp when their career is limited in length, prone to injury and the whims of their ma...

Re: Championship group administration possible ???

Isn't the furlough capped at 2.5k per month? I've not paid massive attention to it, but if that is the case, not sure that would go down so well with the 30k p/w crowd Yep, but putting yourself into administration to achieve the same end, not owing your players anymore won't go down too well with t...

Re: Finance

Ejaria won't be in there. That was a commitment to pay in next year. Interesting to see how much we paid for Puscas and Joao though. We did shed a few big wages - Yann, McShane, Joey, Kelly, Aluko (out on loan for some of it). But yeah, guessing they won't be fantastic Ejaria isn't playing for free...

Re: Finance

Well no Gourlay is certainly a start. I dont think we are in a terrible position going forward tbh. Be interesting to see what this years accounts would look like, but obvs we've got those years of losses hanging over us still We'll see what happens after this Covid mess comes to some sort of concl...

Re: Finance

Thing is a one off pardon won't help. At Reading it is now a cultural problem. Sign too many players. Sign too many not very good players. Pay them too much. Repeat. What makes us think anything will change. Why did we sign new players in January who did not improve the team, and have therefore not...

Re: Championship group administration possible ???

Why don't they just furlough their players? Presumably clubs are scared they will lose the registration of their players. But the option is there already. Strange article Isn't the furlough capped at 2.5k per month? I've not paid massive attention to it, but if that is the case, not sure that would...

Re: Finance

When you say spunked and splurging, it sounds like you are labelling Ejaria and Puscas as failed signings, which is far from the case. These signings are obviously an investment and based on the performances this year (and last for Ovie) I'd say that it is money well spent, I'd certainly rather spe...

Re: Finance

When we spunked all that money on Ejaria and Puskas i said it was mental and that we couldnt afford it. A number of people said i was being a killjoy and should just learn to enjoy football as a releif. Some of those same people now have a 6 page thread on how the finances are screwed. Anyone cheer...

Re: Club 1871 - the What, When, Where, How, Who & Why Thread

If they were to get 10 stewards in, proper stewards - not the neeks they have from uni who want some cash, who stood there week in week out and formed a relationship with the fans it would be significantly easier to police. Agreed with that, tbf. There needs to be some regular faces in that area wh...

Re: Bowen Out.

Since Bowen started he has had a hooneymoon period though. You would expect him to have a good three of four games where the players play better than average, as they have a new boss to impress. Adjusting for that, is it that impressive? It is solid. Next season he won't have a honeymoon period. And...

Re: Second season success stories

I thought Glen Little was shit in his loan spell - next season he was unplayable. Puscas needs some real coaching to get him working effectively in the formations we play. He also needs to improve his work rate and movement. I have no idea what we can do with him but I think he can play. We have to...
