Re: Record Watch 2024/25

BBC reporting that our record is 105, so we’ve got it wrong all these years!

Re: CONFIMRED - The 2nd final countdown

Apologies if I missed it, but no-one seems to have commented on the club’s message to fans yesterday. I wonder what prompted it - the EFL, the police, STAR? It did strike me as an indication that the sale won’t have completed before Saturday’s game, but I suppose it could apply equally in the event ...

Well, I am clinging to my memory of Alan Clarke’s Barnsley at Elm Park, with Michael Parkinson in the Norfolk Road stand!

Re: why don't more people from Ethnic Minorities support Reading?

Gobsheik Perhaps they are only interested in the Premier Clubs, as they are promoted more in the Media etc. Glory seeking springs to mind.
The Premier league is a Global concern now. Lets face it, the World doesn't want the 'smaller' club.

I get your point, but Wrexham would suggest otherwise.

Re: Opposition fans back from the game - 24/25 page 225 onwards

Aging fan base? That’s a new one on me! True dinosaurs, then. Shame, I always found Rovers fans to be more grounded and approachable than the City lot who, even thirty years ago, were obsessed with the notion their club was a sleeping giant that was just a couple of signings away from top flight foo...

Re: Record Watch 2024/25

Article in The Guardian about Birmingham name checks us. Now Birmingham, who travel to Stevenage on Thursday, have records in their sights, namely Wolves’ 103-point haul in 2013-14 and the Football League record of 106 points set by Reading when they were promoted from the Championship in 2005-06. ...

Agree with above comments, particularly Source, but also liked Neptune at right back. Also saw Mikele Leigertwood and Cheeseburger, as well as Alex Pierce in RFC coaches gear.

Re: Nostalgia thread

Just looked at the 02/03 fixtures. I had a season ticket, but the only games I remember are the abandoned New Year’s Day match against Leicester and the home game against Brighton. I’m sure I would remember more if I read the match reports!

Re: 50 Not Out

Winning 3-2 at Bristol City after being 2-0 down. All three goals to the keeper’s right, IIRC. Kermorgant got at least one.

Re: 50 Not Out

Sutekh Wigan po semi, 1-0 down with less than 5 minutes left then 2-1 up when the whistle finally blew. So exciting there was a pitch invasion - by mounted police :?

I tore a muscle in my left side celebrating the winning goal that night.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Shrewsbury Town (a)

Among the statistics that Sky put up at the end of the game are some numbers on crosses and headed clearances. Apparently Shrewsbury made 38 crosses into our box and we made 37 headed clearances. That’s a neat illustration of how dominant we were at the back (Bindon in particular) but it also shows ...

The referee can brief both managers before kick-off if he won’t tolerate the penalty routine. I do think it’s run it’s course now, though.

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

That Waylon Mercy character on BBC football comments seems reasonably similar to SDR. I always found SDR to be anything from mildly annoying to amusing. Yes, good point, SDR and Waylon Mercy both like to give the impression that they are the centre of everyone’s attention, whereas actually, no-one ...

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

How come previous potential buyers were not covered by an NDA as Couhig was swanning it about like Lord of the Manor around the ground and down the Turtle when he was in negotiations, and William Storey was posing for ZZ Top-style pics at Bearwood? Assume those previous NDAs were at the (potential)...

Re: CONFIMRED - The final countdown

It doesn't breach confidentiality to confirm a buyer is real, the deal is alive and progressing, and it isn't giving "false assurances" to say a deal is x% complete. Without knowing the terms of the NDA, we can’t know if that is true. Over the course of my career, I signed literally hundr...

Terrific post from Traff on the previous page. I was at many of those events, despite not having lived in Reading since 1981. One minor error, though - the away game at Newport was the 12th straight win, the 13th was Lincoln away, IIRC.
