Re: The Non - League thread

Bracknell Town brushed aside National League South Oxford City 2-0 at Larges Lane yesterday. The Robins were very impressive - albeit against a very rusty City - and I will be a regular there this season. Another NLS side in Chippenham Town next up on Tuesday evening.

Re: 25 years ago today

Will never, EVER get over that defeat. Still haunts me. I would suggest that every Royal knew that side would break up and our chance was gone. But then...

Re: On this day

Jerry St Clair A quarter of a century ago  today we enjoyed our greatest away performance ever. The goal highlights don't do it justice - we were brilliant that day.

Breathtaking and we utterly destroyed Tranmere. The best away performance I ever witnessed.

Re: Exeter away August 1990

Anyone remember this day? We hired a minibus...happy days.3-1 win. Yeah, first day of the season, we had Senior, Maskell and Moran upfront for the first time together, I think they all scored, Exeter were Div 4 champs and hadn't been beaten for ages at home. Lovely sunny day, great pub and fish and...

LUX Wow, great photos. I can see Bruce Stuckey and Gary Peters I reckon.

RIP Ray, a hero of mine.

Correct and the Donny player far right is a certain Les Chappell.

Re: Ray Hiron

Much maligned by the boo-boys, even during the 75/76 promotions season, but his selfless performances helped Robin Friday and John Murray shine. His goals against Doncaster and especially against Brentford at home were vital (below). His best game? Home to Tranmere. RIP Stick. https://lh3.googleuser...

Re: Old Reading Footage on VHS/film/Youtube

[Tony Le Mesmer: There is a Royals Gems for 84-86 I believe, although sadly the 85-86 winning run is not part of it due to Strike Action.] Yes, I can see that now on the fella's promotional leaflet - such Gems as games v Bognor, Wealdstone and New Zealand but sadly not the 4-3 v Plymouth or the 2-2...

Re: Old Reading Footage on VHS/film/Youtube

I was just going to ask if there was any footage of our 2-2 draw with Wolves in 85/86 which pint an end to our 13 win run but I think that’s now been answered  Does anyone remember the cheap T-shirt’s the club sold at the time showing the League table on the front of the T-shirt with Reading 1...

I have a full match VHS of Exeter 4 Reading 6 from 93/94. Got it from Exeter somehow. Would gladly donate it to the cause.

Re: What got you into supporting RFC?! And when you did who was your nearest team?

Was it family connections? Yes. Two uncles had been watching since 1932 and 1946 and my mum watched for over 50 years. Nan lived in Rutland Road, worked at the club as a tea lady and boarded trialiists and apprentices for many years. Uncles took to me to my first game at EP on 1st January 1966 vs Wa...

Re: Old Reading Footage on VHS/film/Youtube

Got lots of snippets lined up from the 1992/93 season. An 8th place finish but for me the season that Reading really turned the corner, leading to an upswing that lasted 20 years. Rather painstaking trawling through VHS, but no better time to do this I guess! Watch this space. Thanks Mes. Really en...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Or8hL0OPw8&t=42s Early stages and goal from the FA Cup 1st Round match v Birmingham City in 1992, live on Super Sunday! This was the game that was supposed to be the breakout moment for James Lambert. It was all down hill from there unfortunately. Great voice fr...

Re: On this day

1998 and the appalling capitulation against O*ford at the Manor Ground. A more disgraceful performance is difficult to recall. Only consolation was that the taxi started up and moved off the rank for Terry.

Re: Favourite Royals Moments?

Loads to choose from, but In no particular order: - Newport 0 Reading 2 '85. Amazing number of fans in Somerton to see us break the record. Admit to crying at the final whistle. - Reading 2 Wolves 2 '85. Did not make it number 14, but what a night at a dangerously crammed Elm Park. - Reading 4 Plymo...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

The Turkish Superlig reads as nuts too. There are 18 teams in the league - 11 changed manager during the summer, and there have been a further 23 managerial changes in the season to date. Kayserispor are on their fourth boss. There are billions of red cards too - once week there were 8, and three m...

Re: Elm Park Years

Great family history there Ark. My dad had only a passing interest in Reading but he did play local league football. My two brothers and I have always followed Reading and living in Beecham Road, 2 roads away, and going to junior school in Wilson Road, just 1 road away, meant that we were regulars ...

Re: Elm Park Years

Seeing mention of the crowd for that Saints game I have looked back at other crowds over 20,000 since 1955 as a reference point and because my mate John went to the FA Cup game that year when the attendance was 26,500 and we drew 1-1 (never mind the replay). Other cup games:- 1960 2-1 v Norwich 22,...

Silver Fox
Ark Royal Looking forward to this as I am presenting the award for one of this year's inductees. Sworn to secrecy however.

Oooh, in person or live via satellite? If the latter it has to be Bobby or Marcus doesn't it?

Re: Elm Park Years

I've seen somewhere on this thread one poster wishing he had the programme for his first game v Gillingham which I've guessed was 1 Jan 1986. Another poster was after the prog for Barrow at home on 22 Jan 1972. From our enormous store of home progs I've managed to locate both - so for a £2 donation...
