Re: How Are We Second?

Read an interesting article today which put forward a theory that teams who have a majority of footballers who are "players" are generally coping better without fans than teams who have a number of "entertainers" in their team, because "entertainers" feed of the crowd w...

With Project Big Picture scuppered, it would appear that Liverpool and Man Utd are moving closer towards joining a "European Premier League" it has been reported this afternoon....... https://news.sky.com/story/top-english-clubs-in-bombshell-talks-to-join-european-premier-league-12109175 L...

Re: How Are We Second?

Here is another possible reason............with no fans in the grounds, the usual negativity from the stands that is brought to bear on the players when a pass goes astray, or a half chance is missed, is absent, so the players feel freer to express themselves. And because the defence has been tighte...

I remember a Reading defender (Sam Sodje?) getting a 2nd yellow at Old Trafford for a push on Rooney after the Granny Botherer had been flagged offside........

Re: VAR

What happened to "giving the benefit of doubt to the attacker"? There is no way seen either in real time or in a frame by frame still picture that Mane can be offside; these decisions are making an absolute mockery of what is a genuinely good idea in VAR. There was an interesting comment m...

Re: The Manager Sack Race/Merry-go-Round

Unsurprising rumours that Cocu will be gone at Derby if they lose tomorrow to be replaced by Rooney. Rooney doesn't have his badges so will likely have Mike Phelan as #2 as he does. Didn't they just have a decent result at Norwich? Seems extremely knee jerk to sack him so soon into the season. He d...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

Some good news concerning Macclesfield... A local businessman Robert Smethurst has acquired the assets of Macclesfield Town. The Club will maintain the historic brand and logo under the new name of Macclesfield FC. Danny Whitaker will become first team manager. Apparently, Robbie Savage is on the bo...

Re: Football - The Covid Years

I agree with you; if the EFL could negotiate with the PL and (to use a phrase from another subject) "cherry pick" the best bits whilst dumping the rest, that would be a brilliant outcome and my concerns for the medium/long term future of the game would be assuaged. 2 things however, sugges...

Re: Football - The Covid Years

If the EFL agree to the proposals in "Project Big Picture", then they would be signing the death knell for Professional Football outside 40 or 50 clubs within a decade; anyone who thinks the "Big 6" are doing this for any reasons other than for their own selfish power grab is de...

Re: If you didn't support Reading, who would you have supported and why?

Sunderland A girl I fancied supported them, and we went up to see a game at Roker Park (versus Spurs) in about 1980/81; then chose to go to the Poly there and went to Roker Park pretty much every home game for the 2 Years I was up there (though I did hitch down to Darlington to watch Reading secure ...

Re: If you didn't support Reading, who would you have supported and why?

Sunderland - a girl I dated was mad keen on them!

Went to the Poly up there because of the football club, going to games at Roker Park (including the game v Liverpool that was abandoned at half time due to a frozen pitch).

Anybody had a dislocated shoulder ? Do they just snap it back in;leave it for a week and your as good as new ?Yet some people need surgery.Did Moore ever get surgery done ?I have only ever dislocated a finger(volleyball, yeah I know),so I have no idea.A moment of extreme pain while they put it back,...

Re: Rumour- Lewis Gibson

There's no long term strategy in place just endless rolls of the dice. Teams such as Sheffield United meanwhile go down, rebuild and move on to higher levels. Didn’t Sheff Utd go up with us and get relegated with us, then get relegated again while we got promoted again. They have just made it back ...

I also remember walking from the town station to Colchester's old ground in the drizzle for an FA Cup game when they were non-League....and of course we lost.

Re: New FFP rules

Disagree with that part of FFP. There should be a way for owners to invest as much as they want so long as conditions are applied to the “investments” to stop owners, for example, funding through mortgages and loans and not taking responsibility if they “over-reach” themselves. Yeah. They should be...

Re: Bowen out rumour

The big problem with this decision by the club is that it doesn't appear to be part of any over-reaching strategy, or part of any sort of vision for the future; yes, of course they would say their vision is to "get to the promised land" but right now thats unrealistic bollox. Instead all t...

Re: Confimred loan - Ovie Ejaria

On the whole scouting thing Brentford seem to do a lot of recruitment from France. Thats not revolutionary. Alan Carrs dad did it for Newcastle for years. Its a well known bargain bin. The other thing on Brentford is the owners pay 0 attention to the table. They see that as a false way to evaluate ...

Re: Any player you recall who virtually beat us on their own.

I will throw the name of a keeper in who kept the 106 team at bay one October evening in Hull in 2005; Boaz Myhill. We were utterly dominant that night, but fell behind against the run of play and looked liked we would lose as Myhill continued to save Hull again and again; then Blakey scored with ab...
