Re: Osho

Well worth a new thread. Another triumph for the team board. Agree. We need this thread for when Osho signs for West Ham Of course I bow to the fact that your views are more important than others. Please accept my apologies for posting. Let me know when I qualify to post. Clearly 58 years of suppor...

Re: BF I follow Barnsley

So . . . we won . . ..which was good. But apparently (I didn't watch the game), didn't play well and maybe only got the win because of the red cards . . . . . which isn't that good as there's going to be a lot of games where we aren't playing 11 - 9. But then the new manager has only been here a mon...

Bit surprised they haven't offered a package, say £40 for the next 5 home games.

Re: CONFIMRED - Veljko Paunović

Maybe 'fluke' isn't a fair term. But when you go from third to relegation candidates you know that something is up. My point was that Reading were not really developing as a team, Stam left us in a much worse state that he found us. I still believe that if McDermott has been allowed to stay and buil...

Re: CONFIMRED - Veljko Paunović

Do people not agree though that the issue is not just in this decision, but that it's part of a long chain of confusing decisions taken since McDermott #2 was fired. Sure, Stam worked out well for the first season, but it went so badly the next season that you are left asking whether it was a fluke....

Re: CONFIMRED - Veljko Paunović

It's strange though: The owners might not really understand how 'things are done' but surely there's a PR and comms team that is experienced in English football and should have immediately picked up that they hadn't said anything about Bowen in the statement. It wouldn't have taken much effort to ei...

Re: CONFIMRED - Veljko Paunović

My feeling is that fans are moving from anger towards apathy. I've seen a few posts on here trying to defend the decision, but at the end of the day it's just another wild stab in the dark, hoping it works out. What's the old saying - fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Anyone wh...

Shall we just set up the phoenix club now?

I mean, it will save a lot of time and give us a head start for when RFC either goes into liquidation or is just passed around from one dodgey owner to the next. Any thoughts on where we could play? Obviously somewhere nearer the town centre. Would be good to have a decent community club that tries ...

Re: Squad for 2020/21

Current first team squad then is GK Rafael Walker RB Yiadom Osho Araruna CB Moore Morrison McIntyre LB Richards Midfield Rinomhota Laurent (currently expected to sign on Tuesday) Olise Aluko (presumably someone the club will actively try and get out on loan if not sell) FW Baldock Puscas Joao Meite...

Re: Obita new contract

The clubs needs a consistent, reliable left-back. Unfortunately Obita's injuries mean that isn't him.

Should have bought one years ago rather than throw endless money at wingers.

Re: Bowen, Sack? Yes or no?

Thanks for detailing your view. My opinion is, he has done a good enough job to this point and we has not had a window where he could effectively recruit. Now he may be a puppet of the Board and Joorabchian but if Bowen goes, the others will remain and have input in hiring the next guy, likely a cl...

Re: Bowen, Sack? Yes or no?

Not Snowball's biggest fan but there is some sense to that timeline despite the usual assumptions, what is your realistic alternative? Let me be clear, I don't expect to win the league or get in the playoffs any time soon. I don't demand instant success or have unrealistic goals. It will be a strug...

Re: Bowen, Sack? Yes or no?

I'm interested - We've had a lot of different managers since PL relegation and (apart from that one season under Stam) we've been pretty bad. So if it was just a case of finding the 'right' manager - surely we would have done so already? If this is people's argument, that somehow our squad is consta...

Re: Finance

The free market is working pretty well for everyone involved in football who is making money. There's piles of the stuff being shared around. The problem is that free markets involve failure - that's the nature of capitalism - so club failure is a natural part of the system. But then a clubs support...

We're supposed to have been on 200%+ of income on wages. It's going to take more than that.[/quote We must reduce the squad size this summer. It’s been too large for far too long. Get rid of 9 or 10 and bring in about 4. There has to be a wage cap introduced before next season. I'm no accountant bu...

Re: Reading FC 2018/19 accounts

The short answer is no; the entire point of FPP is that it looks at the profit/loss a club is making when any investment from the owner is excluded. For example: If RFC are making £40m a year from football/commercial activities, then over 3 seasons it can't spend more than £120m + the cushion that ...

Re: Reading FC 2018/19 accounts

I'm not an expert - but my understanding is that: The issuing of shares to convert owner debt is purely an accountancy practice and has no impact on the 'real' finances of the club or FFP. We've still lost exactly the same amount, it's just the way that lose is financed has been changed. Although w...
