Re: BFTG - Luton

Whenever we win well people say we were playing a very poor side. There is no doubt that Luton are limited but I think we would have beaten almost any Championship team playing like that today and so to me it is about how well we played and not how poor Luton were. The question is can we play that w...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Preston North End (h) sponsored by a new hope

Tough run of games to start with for Bowen. Expecting nil points tomorrow and so anything better than that will be a bonus. In fact 3 points from Bowen's first 3 games would be quite good IMO. Sadly I fear 0 points from the next 3 is more likely and number 13 calling for his head. Genuinely hope I a...

Re: Bowen interview

Yes indeed a very positive interview. He sounds like a grounded and sensible chap who said all the right things - well worth a read for anyone who has not seen it. I can only think that the current owners were sucked in by Gourlay's CV and it is a shame his era turned out to be a disaster but they ...

Re: Worst start for many years.

stealthpapes Genuine question, andrew - if that is your real name, how many cup finals does that leave us with this season?

A new manager and 35 Cup Finals to look forward to.

Re: Next Manager

Ainsworth would be a very astute choice. He'd be able to work on a budget and bring some promising talent up from Wycombe, also the likes of Akinfenwa who would also be a real handful up top. Think Ainsworth could be a good call and if we could get Akinfenwa that would at least add hilarity to the ...

Classy guy. Shame it didn't quite work out for him.

Also a +1 from me.

I think it is probably the right decision but Gomes has been classy throughout and I wish him well for the future.

Re: Next Manager

This whole "knows about Championship football" thing is nonsense Stam had absolutely no experience of Championship football and got us to a playoff final, because he played the right system to win matches and caught a lot of teams by surprise that season. It just so happens that he didn't...

Re: Gomes, Should he stay or should he go? Mk2

I think this sacking has been likely for a while. I feel sorry for Gomes as I am not entirely sure that it is all his fault but the main issue is his complete lack of tactical awareness and ability to change games. If we do not change managers now we are 100% going to struggle all season whereas a c...

Re: Next Manager

Hughton head and shoulders above the rest for me but would also be very happy with Ainsworth who I have heard very good things about from another local manager. Not sure about anyone else on the list. Just please no more foreign managers . We desperately need a long term appointment who knows about...

Worst start for many years.

Just thought it was worth flagging up that this is the worst start by a Reading F C squad for many years. After 10 games we managed 9 points in each of the last two seasons - whereas this year we are at 8. Statistically it also means that we are unlikely to recover very much. Last season 11 of the 1...

Re: Gomes, should he stay or should he go - poll

I would certainly give him until December but looking at the next 6 games we could easily lose them all and if so I doubt he would survive that.

I think we need at least 6 points from the next 6 or else the owners might well lose patience.

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Just back from the game and I enjoyed that. Reading were very clinical and took their chances superbly. The Nevers goal in particular was excellent with a superb first touch before putting the ball away. Sorry to see both Odimayo (who really impresses me every time I see him) and Liddle injured off....

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

From the Bowen interview it looks like we are going to give Novakovich the choice of staying and fighting for a spot or moving on. We have to accept that it will never be possible for "every" top Academy player to make it at Reading. Some will go elsewhere and be successful such as Jack St...

Re: Where will we finish?

Much talk of a top half finish. From what I’ve seen, if we can keep players fit then this is a top 6 team all day long. I hope so. I stuck £30 on it at 16-1 the day after the window closed. I still managed to get 10/1 for top 6 after the Cardiff game. Thought that was worth a shot as it would pay £...

Re: Formation for the season ahead

We played a 3 5 2 against Peterborough yesterday more or less. That's not what Nameless said and I'm going to trust my twin over you. We played 4-3-3 for most of the match - although the full backs were getting forwards a lot which was why we got exposed at the back a few times. Then we switched to...

Re: Pre season tour

Thanks for the summaries To those who went, did we look like we could compete in the Championship? Do we look more ready than 12 months ago? IMO last pre season was a shambles by comparison. Today the team looked organised and well motivated and I am much more hopeful than I was a few weeks back. A...

Mcnulty departure confimred https://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/reading-fc-striker-marc-mcnulty-16641267 Good luck to him. Probably could have been a good player for us at a different time but was never going to fit into the way Gomes wants to play. Hope he scorers a lot of goals and then we can sel...
