Re: Portsmouth Admin

Here's my take on Pompey. They bought the players that took them to the F.A. Cup Final with money they didn't have. That led to the Fulham game. Could we have stayed up if they had lived within their means? They could have been in 18th for all we know. There would certainly been one less good team ...

Both their goals from players unmarked in our right back position??

Apart from that the Griff had a great game and perhaps somebody else couldhave been their for the second.

Re: Most ever losses in the FA Cup?

It wasn't Stockport, it was Sheffield FC and they may well have played pick-up games among their own members - married v singles, smokers v non-smokers etc

Re: Most ever losses in the FA Cup?

A work colleague told me today that Reading have lost more games in the FA Cup than any other team. In summary, this is because we have never won the cup and were founded shortly before the FA came in to being. Does anyone know if this stat is true? We have been knocked out more times than any othe...

Re: Our previous games in the last 16 of the FA Cup

The Marlow game in 1882 - we couldn't get a team up!! Too short notice or something.

83 years ago next Friday since we last won in R5 - in front of our largest home crowd of all time - a never-to-be-beaten 33,042.

I don't think the new stadium will be extended.

Franchise FC
Still Hate Futcher! The last game of our '85 (?) title winning season. We beat Doncaster 2 - 0, Sir Trevor Senior scoring both.

83-84, and I presume you mean the last home game. Last game was the riotous trip to Hartlepool.

No - 85/86 season.

Re: 38 Years ago today

There are many instances of post-war crowds of 20000+ and some 25000+. Best-ever league gate of 29091 against Notts County (Tommy Lawton and all) 24/9/49. Where the fu ck did they put them all? The health and safety nazis weren't around then. There's a great picture of about 30 men sat on top of th...

Re: 38 Years ago today

Was the biggest crowd I have been in at Elm Park. Yes me to and as far as I can remember EP was filled to capacity (it was a very tight squeeze on the South Bank) which I think was 25,000 at the time - reduced dramtically after a certain stadium disaster. I seem to remember a rainy night at home to...

Re: 38 Years ago today

I was at the Arsenal game and stood right at the front behind the town end goal (no real segregation then) The Arsenal fans were gievn the Tilehurst End (only time I recall the visitors standing there) but doubtless there were Gooner infiltrators elsewhere. Has anyone ever found a video record of t...

Ark, you may not have noticed out there in Kansas but Luton are no longer a League club. Remember the 0-5, I bet you do.

Re: Doing the 92

Did any posters ever see Reading play at Odsal after the Valley Parade stadium fire? Yes, me for one. I remember it being one of the coldest days I ever spent watching football. Me for two. And there were no refreshments because the week before Leeds had visited and rolled the refreshment hut down ...

Re: IF you are still at school

Incidentally when I was at school many years ago everybody interested in football followed Reading but most had a top level team that they were interested in as well. Same - but probably the same school. When Reading were doing well in 1970 I reckon there must have been 15-20 out of 90 who went to ...

Half way down already

Based on last 10 years Lge tables: - the team that's bottom at this stage has always been relegated - bye bye, Posh - on average one of the other two in the bottom three at this stage escapes. Only once have all three gone down. So likely to be us or Plymouth - 50:50 shout - the safety level - calcu...

Re: Khizanishvili signs on loan

Maguire No complaints from me. Another body in the squad, very experienced, should be okay at this level.

Straight replacement for O'Dea I reckon
