Tranmere Rovers 6-0 Reading.

My first ever game. Reading 5-0 down at half-time. Those were the days!

Yes, but even darker days to follow; Tommy Eternal Darkness Burns was yet to arrive.

God, I remember that.

Seems like a world away today.

That is why I'm going to enjoy this season, no matter what!!

And 10 years ago today, we got thumped 6-1 at home to Crystal Palace.

Dark, Dark Days.

However, 4 years ago today, Hughesy scored that wonder goal at Wolves to give us the 1-0 victory, much happier days!

Left Newbury for the Tranmere game at about 10.30 in the morning I remember, normally more than enough time to get up the M6 and to Prenton Park.

Not that day and at quarter past two I was still trying to get off the M42 in Birmingham so I gave it up as a bad job and parked up near spaghetti junction and listened in horror to the game on the radio.

Got home early evening to find the radiator in my lounge was spewing water all over the carpet.

I wasn't sure if I should laugh or cry. I could say Reading were shit, but I don't want to offend shit! What we all saw on Saturday was a badly managed team without any idea what to do. No imagination, no tactics, no real passion. Hopeless.

What a day that was, pitch invasion at the end and Uri Gellar telling us all to calm down. We were absolutely gash, but it could have been different if Mark 'can't hit a barn door' Robins has tucked away an easy chance in the first 5 minutes.

The South Bank were on top form that day.

If you are talking about Reading 1-6 Palace in 96/97 your memory has let you down - Robins was on loan the following season.

The only good thing about that Tranmere trip was taking the mick out of the spoty scouse youths alongside us in the stand.

I went to that, came away really pleased as we'd only let one goal in, in the second half - quite an improvement it seemed!

JM and TB1 spent a while walking round Prenton Park discussing things afterwards as well I believe.
