I do not intend for this to turn into another debate about the merits or otherwise of dear old Hunty, but I was perturbed upon perusing the News of The World yesterday to see yet another "I do not fear Stamford Bridge cauldron of hate" type article lifted from what presumably was a reasonably extensive interview with our impish left-winger.
The reason that I am rather irritated by this latest in a steady stream of recent journalistic output regarding Hunt is three-fold. Firstly, it further fans the flames of the Jose Mourinho media furnace, secondly Hunt has nothing to apologise for or to comment further on following what 100% of credible observers deemed to be an accidental collision in a football match and thirdly why do we have to further hype a situation of frankly something-and-nothing potetntial; having visited Abramovich-era Stamford Bridge in person for a Champions League match courtesy of a freebie, I can assure you that the only thing that the regular Chelsea home supporter is likely to get truly uppity about is the refreshment bar running out of Chardonnay at half time.
Hunt, imho, is very midsjudged in coming out and having a fair amount to say to the press at this time. A simple no comment, nothing further to add to what has already been said would have been sufficient so as he could wholly concentrate on the performance of both himself and the team as they try and play their way out of a bad patch rather than get himself worked up about it all. You can only assume that Steve Coppell - who wanted no more said about the matter even when those entirely pathetic death-threats were received - won't be impressed about it all and you have to wonder why the manager, himself a self-admitted media-shy person, hasn't offered the player a bit more guidance in this instance.
