Ireland was Neutral. However many Irishmen decided to join up and fight with the allies regardless.

There is good evidence that the Nazis also had a liaison with the IRA to arrange an attack through Ireland into our back door.
To tie it all up, the nation of Ireland was (and is) neutral, and hence did not take an active part in WW2; there were then, and there are now, many Irishmen (from both sides of the border) in the British Army.
Oh, and Bas Savage didn't take part in the war either, hope that was helpful.
