No home friendlies.

Is that right? Can't remember the last time that happened.

Apologies if this is a Dodd/has already been discussed to death on some obscure thread I'm not aware of.

Was just suggesting what I thought might be a likely reason for it.

Stadium work next season could lead to a repeat.

Manu just roll out another bit of turf. We completely stripped ours, laid new drainage, now heating, installed special grofaster lights, dug a hole by the dugout and installed special bobbly devices that can trip Ronaldho up by remote control.
That's why it took longer...

And there is no point us playing home friendlies as we all just moan about the cost / opposition / amount of Royalty points / meaningless nature of the game

Don't start introducing logic into the equation or we'll be here forever....

Anyway now that the pitch has been relayed, we can look forward to an immaculate playing surface all season long, as it was the drainage that was causing the damage to the pitch and was nothing at all to do with the rugby was it?????........

The way it works is that little clubs pay big clubs a guarantee before they come and play a friendly.

So in the past little club Reading pay big club Spurs/Man City/Feyenoord a guarantee and they come at play at the little club's ground.

This year little club Wolves pay big club Reading a guarantee and they come at play at the little club's ground.

We could have played Feyenoord still at home, prefer Barcelona though.
Probably wouldn't go though.

could you provide the crowd capacity of molineux as opposed to the madejski stadium? the top flight honours of wolves as opposed to the royals? the international players from each club? thought not.

Does that mean that a team like Nottingham Forest are currently a bigger club than Reading?

Eh? I could actually, but it would be a waste of time trying to argue over or justify what was essentially a humorous comment about Reading's current status as the 8th best football team in England.

To be fair, I don't think Wolves are playing us because they're 'bigger' or better' than us.
We're certainly a better team at this moment, but I think playing them at their place will be a good test - they rarely get battered at their place.
And we will be a good pre-season test for them.
It's only a friendly...
If we played them in the 3rd round of the FA Cup at their placem who knows who would be favourites.
I think he was being a bit tongue in cheek, he knows the history, but we are a better team at the moment.

Just for the record I was up at the Mad Stad today and saw the pitch. It looked like it had been painted on, fantastic

Wasn't an integral part of Dirk's joke the fact that an historically famous and successful club is now reduced to asking an historically unsucessful and non-famous club to play a friendly at its ground? So, would it be correct to say that your pointing out the premise of that joke as if you are offering new insight into the matter really only highlights your boorish and rather obtuse nature.

.."thought" so..

Steady on, Baines, spare a thought for those less fortunate than yourself :?

The only way to fill FGS's local stadium is to ground share with our reserves!

Just for a laugh - Reading's current internationals:

Marcus
Federici (squad)
Murty
Ivar
Bennett
Bikey
Sonko (attempted)
Mate (U21)
Shorey
De La Cruz
Gunnarsson
Seol
Hunt
Doyle
Long
Lita (U21 All Star)
Convey

Not sure I can list all the Youth internationals - just the 6 in the current England u16 sqaud though plus various English, Irish, Scottish, Icelandic, Turkish youth)

Over to Mr FGS for the Wolves side of the story....

Attendances last season - they averaged just under 21,000 (which ranged from 26,000 to 16,000). We averaged 24,000 which ranged from 24,000 to 24,000ish

Top flight honours over (say) the last 25 years - we're dead even with 'none', although of course we have won the Football League title in that time. Other than that it's a Simod Cup win against a Sherpa Van Trophy win and the odd divisional title each.

But of course the facts are secondary when you bear in mind the essential tongue in cheek natureof the original remark, which clearly passed FGS by. Perhaps we need to be less subtle in view of the audience ?
