The thing that really saddens me is the complete loss of credibility AP has suffered with the starting of such a thread.

This season of struggle has been one for sorting the strong from the weak and a number seem to have cracked under the pressure of it all, fortunately more supporters than players from what I have seen.

Dont agree. Hunt is still working hard but things are just not coming off for him at the moment.
I do agree about Long though. He is improving all the time and has been crucial in our recent improvement. He is a real handful for defenders now. They certainly know he is around. However I would drop Kitson and play Long rather than dropping Doyle although its a close run thing.

Tbh that could be a factor on my 'Hunt gripe'. I don't dislike him as a person, in fact I admire his attitude and the way he has made a very good career for himself after being on the scrapheap at Brentford.

I think having him collect £25,000 every week and still be completely incapable of basic football skills such as crossing and passing simply isn't good enough from a supposed Premiership left winger.

He has been poor recently but he was playing really well for two/three months in late autumn/early winter which even you AP surely accept.

Hunt was industrious but with no end product. Oster wasn't even interested! Wandering around like a lost Welsh sheep - which is what he resembles.

Hunt at present can't cross, shot or head a ball, but he can hassle, close down and tackle.
Doyle at present can't crposs, shoot, head or even find a colleague as he's so greedy in an effort to get a goal, but he still runs his heart out, closes down and tackles.

The impOSTER cannot even do THAT! Absolute travsty that he is in the professional game. Bottling out of tackles all day, failed to close down ONCE, although I believe he did manage to put in one cross all day. Brilliant for £15k a week.

He also had ball for two mazy runs , where he ran around one Blackburn player in the middle of the park, and was so fazed by the whole experience, that he shat himself and promptly gave the ball to them by a totally crap pass.

We were reduced to laughter at him in the second half. We couldn't even be bothered to berate of him he was so awful. Did you also not notice that his colleagues stopped passing to him after a while?

Truly astonishing. Thank goodness his contract is up at the end of the season. Although knowing how RFC operate, he's probaly already guaranteed a 3 year extension or something as he's such a good player. After all, he's only 30 come December 2008, so he's bound to improve!

Perhaps they should also show the same piece of video to every other member of the squad as well to demonstrate how sheer hard work, supreme fitness, guts and determination allied to good reading of the game can carry you to positions where you have great opportunities to score on a regular basis.

Then tell them that even if their conversion rate is as poor as Hunt's they could still be the 2nd top scorer of the season.

Hunt worked his guts off to get into the box for Long's cross (and that's how he gets all his goals). Excellent reading of the game plus unparalleled determination and energy. Recognising his sort of "off the ball" genius is what separates professional managers (like Coppell, and those who bid £5million for him) from relatively clueless internet footie 'experts'.

In fact, a board of clueless kneejerkers being anti something is probably the best endorsement FOR that thing.

Hunt was immense against Blackburn and along with Bikey and Rosenior contenders for man of the match.

Agree (almost) entirely. Certainly couldn't have put it better myself. I was infuriated to see on MoTD Oster pull back (literally) from closing Bentley down when he volleyed Harper's headed clearance and almost scored. In today's Premier League such lack of commitment is almost unseen. And please, please don't say he makes up for it with vision and skill. Hoddle he ain't. Besides, today's gifted players today are also required to be industrious (ala Rooney).

Some fans have no loyalty. Hunt is a big reason for last seasons success, and also for us staying up this year. His finishing is weak, his crossing is suspect, and his passing isn't world class, but the lad has heart. He wants to win more than anyone on the team, and he shows it with how he throw his body around for the club. I respect Stephen Hunt because I feel he wants it more than anyone else, and despite the fact that he isn't the most talented player on our squad, he is often the only one willing to take a chance. I used to be a Convey supported (I'm a Yank), but now I would prefer Hunt on the left, and I think many Premiership clubs would like to have a player like him.

Look at his goal against Everton great touch great finish, look at his assists this season - Tottenham springs to mind great run and ball for Kitson's second. There was more than just endeavour there.

The problem is that when Hunt isn't playing well he still tries which seems to highlight his mistakes as he looks like such a try-hard. Open you eyes and realise that if Hunt was not in our team we would concede more and score less. Convey has allowed his injury to ruin his career but even if he was available I'd still take Hunt. Absolutely. Forget the funny money numbers that were floating around in January and just think of the player you thought Hunt was a couple of seasons ago, and what he is now. Most of us will, I think, have been pleasantly surprised at the step up he's made.
His game has always been about whole-hearted action and energy and he's always had some skill and touch. This is great when he has the momentum and the ball at his feet because his directness causes opponents problems. He also has the spirit to keep playing and being a nuisance even when things aren't coming off for him personally.
Most teams would benefit from a player with such attributes: we certainly cannot afford to ignore them.

Okay, at the risk of being called a whatever we're called nowadays, Hunt is the best left winger we have, he works the hardest anyone else does and he pushes us forward with his speed and attitude.
So, even if he has no 'skillz', he helps us.
