Hulse vs Hunt

by floyd__streete » 09 Nov 2008 13:32

Now I must admit to having thought at the time that Rob Hulse would have made an excellent summer signing for us, a claim that looks laughable on the evidence of his anonymous performance from inside the confines of Andre Bikey's pocket yesterday. But whilst it is clear that Noel Hunt plays in a better side than Hulse does (I still maintain that Hulse would score goals aplenty for Reading) you have to say hats off to the Reading staff for capturing NHunt at a fraction of the price of Hulse. I appreciate his work rate and his excellent ability in the air for a sub six-footer; I noticed yesterday that Doyle seems to have gained an awareness of NHunt's flick ons and they are clearly forming an excellent partnership.

Together with the form of Armstrong - storming run and a cross of perfection for the second goal yesterday - it is almost enough to make you forget about the likes of Fae and Halford.....

Totally agree to have sold off Kitson for £5.5mil and replaced him with Noel Hunt for a very small fraction of the price, is definitely very good business! I think the Hunt-Doyle partnership is probably the most effective we've had in a long while. Kitson and Doyle were good, but as a partnership I never really felt they blossomed together.

Chris Armstrong is the real steal for me, to have replaced someone as class as Shorey, for again a fraction of the price we recieved for Shorey is a great find. The more and more I see of Armstrong, the more I like. Solid at the back, but still has good technique still and gets forward well. His work yesterday for the goal was class, quick one-two, shrugged off a couple of challenges, kept his balance and still had the composure to dribble on a little bit more and deliver a inch perfect cross. What were Sheff Utd thinking??

N.Hunt was a great signing by Coppell imo. Good on the ball and in the air, also scores goals which we needed.

Noel Hunt is really good in the air despite not being the tallest player. Hes scored so many goals coming to the front post from crosses/corners this year. We've got two strikers that despite not being tall, are brilliant in the air.

N.Hunt = Another bargain.

I would dare to say N.Hunt may yet prove a better striker than Doyle.

Halford's first team appearance - pen give away at tottenham. No matter how fortuatous the pen was. Bit part prima donna.
Armstrong is a player developing well and not scared to get out of position in an overlap and put in a telling cross. Not scared to also have a shot on goal (ala Burnley).

Noel Hunt is a complete steal and again a dark horse signing.

When we signed Mooney wasn't he said to be better than Doyle LOL. N.Hunt will be a big player for us come the end of the season.

The true value of having bought N Hunt may only really be seen in January, when transfer offers come in for S Hunt.

I've often thought that N. Hunt could be a reason for S. Hunt staying. It sounds like that Irish brigade here have got a lot of good banter going on here and get on really well. If in January it's looking like we could go straight back up it could persuade him to stick it out until the end of the season, especially if those interested are miles away up north, such as Everton and Sunderland.

tbh when we signed nhunt i thought "oh god not another irish bloke"
and to make matters worse he is the brother of one of our current players

but he has proved himself and you have to give credit to the club for finding him
he is forming a lethal partnership with doyle

imo if he or doyle got injured that would be our biggest loss as i cant see long scoring many as a reolacement. plus coppell wouldnt give mooney or church a chance in the first team

floyd__streete Now I must admit to having thought at the time that Rob Hulse would have made an excellent summer signing for us, a claim that looks laughable on the evidence of his anonymous performance from inside the confines of Andre Bikey's pocket yesterday. But whilst it is clear that Noel Hunt plays in a better side than Hulse does (I still maintain that Hulse would score goals aplenty for Reading) you have to say hats off to the Reading staff for capturing NHunt at a fraction of the price of Hulse. At the time, I also thought that Hulse would have been a good replacement for Kitson. When we went to Bramall Lane in 06/07, I thought that Hulse was excellent and his goal, outpowering a Sonko in good form, was very well taken. It's a shame that the repeatedly reckless Petr Cech may have killed off Hulse's chances as a top flight striker.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Baines. Hulse is an excellent target man, very strong, and dare I say it may have been Sheffield United's Tevez had he not got injured. Ironically that injury probably sent us down in the long run .

Kitson and Doyle partnership>>>>Doyle and Hunt partnership.
