Thou Voice
Handsome Man
Thou Voice ...just a really stupid question here - but should it not be the new oncoming manager who picks and chooses who stays and goes?

I mean surely there is food for thought that a new manager may want to have say Marcus in his team? It's not as if he's that bad for christs sake?

It looks to me we're having a firesale... :(

Can't you come back as Sir Rodger Doyle. It was so much better when you played the comedy role of being the only shittinted glasses wearing misericunt on the board.

Listen my pooooooor keyboard warrior known to all as Ugly Man...

Ameeeeeeeeeeen to that...

...now for all you foolish belivers that said that I was the man himself, I hope that the spurs on your tongues are ridden with apoligies to myself and Sir Rodger Doyle for alll your lies.

Days and days went by and as Reading FC played like they wanted to be part of Reading Bedding FC as they slept on the pitch. When I was critical of the man you called SIR you were critical of me being a duplicate account and I was not........

:D  :D  :D :D

.......ON Noooes!

SO FELLOW HOBNOBERS AND FAILED KEYBOARD WARRIORS, I HAVE ONE QUESTION...

HOW DO YOU LIKE THOSE APPLES?

Moving on. Thank you Sir Rodger Doyle for clearing this mess up once and for all. 8) Let's get this thread back on track...

By and large old players who by definition will not be part of the re-build process. Scott Goldbourne clearly never pushed on which is a bit of a shame.

I think it can be assumed that there is a bit of wage reduction being undertaken, not only on the playing squad but also in the management structure. Whoever takes over will be on less than the sainted Steve and his backroom staff less than Kevin and Wally. Clear out the high earners and exert downward pressure elsewhere.

Royalee In 2 days Hammond's already done a better job than Coppell in clearing out the deadwood.

Stephen Hunt is still here.

strap Can't argue with much of the list, but is it just a tad shortsighted letting Lita go so early? I mean his contract is probably until 30th June. A new amanger will be appointed well before then (hopefully?!), and he may just have flourished under a different regime to Sir Steve/Dill/Wall.

Agreed. Lita's lack of first team action may be due to him not being good enough. Equally (and more probably I feel) it's due to him not seeing eye to eye with Coppell. I would have liked to see him under a new manager who may be able to get more out of him.

Hahnemann says that he and Murty have known for months that their contracts wouldn't be renewed, we've all known since mid March that Sodje's wouldn't.

Obviously then the end of Coppell's plans rather than decisive action by Hammond.

Lita's contract expires before the start of pre season training so no opportunity to impress a new manager. Are you suggesting that he he pass up the opportunity of blagging a largish signing on fee from a Bosman transfer in order to sign a new contract with a club where, to all intents and purposes, he has burned his bridges and with no guarantee that a new manager will take to him either. It is best for both the club and Lita that he restart his career afresh somewhere else.

Not really that upset by any of the players being released. People have been clamouring for Hahnemann to be dropped for 2 seasons, Murty hasn't played in 2 years and Lita has shown little desire to apply himself for 2 seasons. Duberry was maybe deserving of a 12 month contract as Ivar is getting more injury prone and Bikey is liable to spend half ther season suspended but his departure should see Pearce getting more first team football.

At the end of season 2007/8, both Kevin Dillon and Wally Downes held out for - and negotiated - higher respective deals. They have since failed to deliver on those higher earnings, so keeping them on at those rates would have been unsustainable.

I think its something that needs to be done to be honest.

Next season we will save approx 2.5 mill from players that we will not really miss.

His name is Sir Dodger Royal, not Sir Rodger Doyle, and anyway, Thou Voice is clearly not him.

Maybe all the players knew Coppell and a number of the 106 club were going anyway and stopped giving 100% for the last few months...?

As I said on another thread...
If I was a manager looking at Reading as an opportunity, I would not be too impressed at the club's decision to let a player like Lita go.
Nonetheless, It would not have come as a surprise to these players.

Quite apart from all the legitimate reasons for getting rid of a bad apple like Lita, can it be said that we're "getting rid" of a player who clearly has been running his contract down and not signing new ones offered to him.

Well if you know that Lita was always going to leave Reading regardless, fair enough.
