So how many here would turn to the opportunity to live in Canada or the U.S. or Hong Kong or somewhere with work because of RFC? I enjoy going to football matches but I'd imagine myself jumping at the chance, and if I did decide to stay at home RFC would probably be one of the smallest factors in making me stay.

The Vancouver Sun The town of 140,000 is perhaps best known in Canada as the punch line in a recurring joke on the CBC Radio program As it Happens, whose hosts routinely (and inexplicably) make reference to Reading.

Erm, why? Those crazy Canadians :|

According to Wikipedia:

Despite the gravity of many of its stories, As It Happens is also known for being lighthearted and carrying news of the obscure and bizarre. For instance, during the early 1990s there were updates for several years on the battle over a large fibreglass fish that annoyed a neighbour in England. The show is also well known for noting how far each city in the UK (and sometimes elsewhere) is from Reading, a running gag that started as a serious bit of information in one interview in the early '70s. Former host Barbara Frum also once interviewed Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. Barbara Budd and Mary Lou Finlay maintained a recurring debate over whether ABBA's "Dancing Queen" was an appropriate choice of bumper music between interviews, and more recently Budd and Carol Off solicited listener feedback to determine the world's most annoying song.

Depends where in New Jersey. I can't claim to know the place intimately, just a slow train ride from New York to DC, but everywhere between the two cities looked an absolute shithole.

Of course it all depends how you frame the question. Would you turn down a dream job and/or living in somewhere you've always fancied living because of RFC? Probably very few would.

On the other hand, would you move to Stockport if your job moved there, and it was "just a job" to you?

The Vancouver Sun "He could well be the world's most dedicated footsie fan," the tabloid Mirror reported in its story

Footsie indeed

I thought Reading's population was higher than that. Exeter and Cambridge are about 100k and they feel much smaller.

Readings population in the 2001 census was 232,662, making Reading the No. 17th biggest settlement in England ahead of Derby, Portsmouth Sunderland, Norwich etc. Reading is the biggest 'Town' in England, all 16 settlements above Reading being cities.
reading is also West of london, not South.

Deadlock RFC's most dedicated fan is Paul Black.

and look what it did to him. There's a warning there, kids.

Not sure what that's meant to mean but, apart from his hair - which I'm in no position to criticise, there's nothing too wrong with Blackie.

Nothing that a change of coat wouldn't fix.

Tbh I've never really noticed a coat, a change of car probably wouldn't go amiss, considering the mileage he does going to games the string of old bangers he's used don't really fit the bill.

Now that really is uncalled for. Paul is extremely hot on personal hygiene, I've never met anyone in my life who washes so many times a day. Bad hair and general tattiness does not mean dirtiness, he simply chooses to put football ahead of fashion.

A truely dedicated fan would not have emigrated to Canada in the first place.

(Not a dig at Charles McLeod, just a fact)

Not blaming anyone for choosing to emigrate elsewhere, I just wouldn't label them the most dedicated fan when others attend every game.
