East Grinstead Royal
SWLR Like the Gas, WHU fans speak of the Irons, not the Hammers.

"Iron" is, of course, cockney rhyming slang...

Or Scunthorpe United in other parts of the world.

We should be the "Jet-ski's!"

coz no-one can pronounce his or the stads name right
and as an indication of our supposed wealth, we've all got one on a trailer in the car-park,
like the tractor boys!

Hey knob, if you really hate royalty ( jesus, get over it), then why do you have "Royal Oak" in your location?

Can we be the 'dinghies?

While we're not the preferred option if you want the Carribbean Cruise in the Prem, we'll still be afloat when it all goes belly up.

No question about the way I feel about the royals the Dorset locals quite sensibly hung a 'royal' from our Royal Oak. It's also a pub on a par with the Rose & Thistle HTH Viva the republic!

Er....wrong!

The Royal Oak is the name given to the oak tree within which King Charles II of England hid to escape the Roundheads following the Battle of Worcester in 1651. The tree was located in Boscobel Wood, which was part of the park of Boscobel House. Charles confirmed to Samuel Pepys in 1680 that while he was hiding in the tree, a Parliamentarian soldier passed directly below it. The story was popular after the Restoration; numerous large dishes painted in slip with the Boscobel Oak, supported by the Lion and Unicorn, with the king's face peeping from the branches were made by the Staffordshire potter Thomas Toft.

In other words, the pub is named for a reason exactly opposite that which you claim for it.

You are Lord Mandelson AICMFP.

How about the Accounts?
or the Balance Sheet? (the Berkshire Balance?)
or the Sound (as in financially sound)

or more traditionally we could have been the Bs (as in beer biscuits and bulbs)

floyd__streete Be honest, do you ever refer to the club by our nickname in conversation?

"Are you going to the Royals game Saturday?"
"I see the Royals have signed Jobi McAnuff"
etc.

No, of course you bloody don't.

I do.
My mates do.
The majority off fans do.
Get off your high horse.

One thing you have to understand about the thread starter is that, sometimes, his threads are very tongue in cheek. I think this one falls into that category...

Negative_Jeff We still have a nickname in regular use.."URZzz". This is a derivative of "The R`s" which was used by QPR for many years until they dropped it about twenty years ago in favour of the poxy "Superhoops".
By the by, why does that geezer on the annoying car insurance advert on TalkSport keep referring to Plymouth Argyle as the Jenners....Shite I`ve just set light to the spatula

..... Which I can't stand, a rip-off from QPR who, for the record, still use the nickname to some degree. I always remember as a kid shouting 'Come on you Royal's' as the players came out of the tunnell at Elm Part, but this mysteriously changed as from about 2000 onwards everyone started saying URz. Why did it change, did an influx of new fans unable to bleat out the one line correctly make a difference or was I wrong all along?! Someone please help! :? :P

I've been thinking of when we next have a 'marketing make-over'.

A tribute to one of Reading's older shopping emporia, pre-Oracle days.

Reading's new club nickname to be the 'Butts Sole Surfers'.

(I'll get my coat)

Forbury Lion The 106 has a nice ring to it... at least until we better it.

Charlton will better it this season...

URZ has been used as long as I've been going to games.

Well before 2000 !!

It got picked up on way back around Pants Day and used more, but it's a name that certainly was widely used on the Southbank...

and breathe, you are of course quite right, but in a little known Dorset ritual all the republicans gather at the "Royal Oak" to hang an effergy of a royal parasite, to demonstrate how much we hate the German/Greek name changing, inbred, wasters and parasites who are the royal family. PS your FP is in the post, honest!
