SteveRoyal If we started with Karacan and Howard in midfield, we may have done a little better.

The key was switching to 4-5-1 after Howard came on, which meant we could actually cope with Forest's midfield.

Back from the highlights.

A few points.

1) Forest's first goal was ridiculously good.
2) Thorvaldson did about all he could with those two headers, 9 times out of 10 both would go in.
3) Definate red and pen. Poor Pen.
4) Lee Camp is a prick.

The Quiet Man Thorvaldsson had 2 headers he should have scored but put them straight at the keeper

Not true. Good (to put it mildly) goalkeeping was to "blame". Most days he'd have scored 2 goals from those headers. Rest is absolutely spot-on.

Liverpool apart, I cannot, in reality, read much different in these reports than previous ones all season, "worst first half of the season"", much better in the second", "unlucky not to have scored", "poor finishing" etc...........so nothing has changed then ?? ??.....................is there any attempt to make it change ??

This is based on watching highlights of the match but when you have 2 golden opportunities and a penalty away from home against a top team and you don't take them then can you expect to get anything from a game?

On another day it may well of ended up different.....

I'm sorry but why are you putting the Liverpool game apart, "unlucky not to have scored", "poor finishing" both apply to the Liverpool game, it just happened that a combination of Liverpool thinking they will walk over us and our players slightly raising the pace of their game meant we beat Liverpool

Seem to remember Mills was booked at Liverpool and yesterday which I believe takes him to 5? Presumably a one game ban.

MY TEAM HAVE LET ME DOWN!

by MR. CYNICAL » 17 Jan 2010 12:12

Gave Liverpool a miss in the week due to work/bad weather and the fact that i have visited Anfield on 3 previous occasions only for us to be well beaten in each of them so typical of them to win on wednesday. Decide to go to forest in the belief that we have turned the corner, (according to some on here) but fearing the classic 'after the lord mayors show'.
Was it a surprise that we lost?

We were still at Anfield in the first half, and the goal from the Ivar error just before half time killed the contest. Saying that however, our second half performance merited a point. Thought Thorvaldsson should have scored the first header, but he couldn't have done any more with the second header. Camp made a world-class save to deny him a debut goal. We may come to regret those missed chances at the end of the season.

I hope McDermott has seen the light and does not play Cisse in a centre midfield pairing again, as the game changed when he went off. Thought Howard did well when he came on apart from the penalty, which was a poor one. Would like to see him and Karacan paired from the start in future weeks. Yesterday also showed how important Gylfi Sigurdsson has become this season, we really missed him. I'm still yet to be impressed by Jay Tabb in a wide position.

LOL @ the video footage! Stewards were a bunch of tossers as they were last season at the City Ground. Mr. Reading, what did the stewards and the OB say to you at the end of the game?

Leeds also lost yesterday, they both got FA Cup on their mind,it always happens when the players see bigger glory in the next game.None of them want to get injured in order not to miss the big cup game.

Yes, but only according to the usual RTG suspects. We haven't turned a corner at all - we still haveweak options up front and are defensively suspect. We played above ourselves at Anfield as the 25 league games played thus far prove.

My third trip to Forest. I only ever seem to go in winter, it's always dark, cold, misty and we off course lose. Again we have to endure Forest fans singing 'You've lost That Loving Feeling' - always guaranteed to make you feel just that little bit more miserable.

Surprised that Cisse is not getting more stick for what I thought was an inept dispaly before being substituted at half time. His distubution was plain embarrassing. Howard must surely now start. He displayed more fight and ambition and was the main reason why we began to present Forest some problems in the second half, appearing to be the catalyst for us using the flanlks rather than the long ball to the isolated Church.

Also, as much as I like Tabb, I never want to see him on the left midfield again.

Boyband Mr. Reading, what did the stewards and the OB say to you at the end of the game?

If they are going to acuse you of persistent standing then they have 800-odd other Reading fans to speak to if the last 20 minutes is to go by, thanks to their heavy-handed approach. I should very much doubt that flicking a v-sign in the stewards direction is an offence as such either, it is not as if he is an officer of the law.

Their stewards were best summed up at the ends as Handbags Harris let rip with a rant in their direction as we left the ground, he got a "if you keep carrying on like that....." response to which he replied "what are you going to do? I am going home!"

The OB said they had had a complaint from one of the stewards that I "assaulted" him. The steward in question had acted like a primary school child when I jokingly put my hand on his shoulder, saying "you're not allowed to touch me! That's assault!"

I didn't think he'd actually be moronic enough to take it to the police, who now have my statement which will be backed up video evidence of the crowd. I expect a slap on the wrist may be administered when they find out the truth of the matter!

Until that point, said steward had appeared the only one of the bunch to show some sort of sense, in actually talking calmly to the fans rather than attempting to bully them back into their seats or out of the ground.

Did you really expect (or was it hope?) to get a result at Forest, a team playing very well and well placed to get automatic promotion?

Second half was a much better performance than first half and we could have had a point, possibly.

That said I'm not convinced we have the ability to pull clear of the drop zone and it's going to be mighty close.
