We may not know what Gorkss actually cost in (Y), or what Long actually cost out (X). Specifics are irrelevant, we know X>Y Gorkss cost less than we got for Long. I hope a good signing, now let's use some of the rest of X and buy a proven goalscorer and creative midfielder and we're quits and in a better position to move forward!

He'll be leaving in January anyway for the ACON.

brendywendy gorkss wasnt available then, we were looking at others, trying to agree terms,
this is how teh window works, unfortunately you may want to buy quick, but the selling clubs know that, and can afford to wait till you offer more. QPR however are desperate to unload so they can bring more in, so this probably sped things up a tad

So your saying that the guy wasn't our first choice and it's taken us two months to work our way down the list to get him? That's not very positive brendy!

Seriously though, as much as I understand the dynamics of the transfer window we really could do with being more decisive earlier in the window (both incoming and outgoing moves) so we don't, as Andrew says, take a month or so of the season to bed in our new side. I'm sure it effects the current players as well as the fans (see the comments about learning to win without Sigurdsson and Long from McDermott).

Really quite happy with this signing though. He's the type of player (pace apart) that we needed and he can hopefully have the right influence on our shaky back line.

Woodcote Royal
Royal Lady Tbf we don't know that it IS £900k spent, because we don't disclose what we pay for players or sell players for, plus we'll have paid it in instalments won't we, so we haven't splashed out nearly £1 million in one hit. I hope he's as good as people are saying - we NEED someone to give the team about impetus and spirit.

We know Southampton's 750k offer was rejected so we can be certain that ours was, at the very least, in the same ball park and most probably in excess of it.

Not necessarily true WR. It depends how that offer was made up and when it was made, and of course how accurate the reports of the bid are. We all know how loose the press can be with their facts when running with these stories and, according to the gospel of brendy, Gorkss wasn't available until very recently (I do wonder if their takeover may have triggered it).

All we know as facts is that we've signed him and it's taken us until the end of August to get the experienced centre back we've been after since we knew we weren't going to have Kishanishvili and Ingimarsson left us (that last bit isn't a fact it's my reading of the situation).

Isn't it nice to have a player that hasn't covered himself with tattoos like some kind of chav!

Let's put it this way; If they turned down 750k under any terms they were not going to accept anything less than 600k up front. We also had a 700k bid rejected for a similar player at Millwall and this all discounts the possibility that the quoted 900k emanates from someone who knows what the actual figure was................................who at QPR would be that bothered about discreetly allowing such information into the public domain when it's pretty small beer for them these days :|

It's no more complicated to work out the approximate fee involved here than it was obvious that we would, at some point, start to spend the proceeds from the sale of Shane Long or, that the club would do everything in it's power not to divulge the percentage it is willing to re-invest in the team.

I suppose you have to admire Madejski's management of expectations.

Sell £12m of players and buy for £900,000 = fans fuming

Sell £12m of players, give an interview suggesting the club is skint, then buy a player for £900,000 = fans happy

The club to replace the £7m of forward that has just left by reinvesting a proportion of those funds in an effort to ensure the club remains competitive at this level.

Dave Gale Sorry i posted this in the other thread..... but my friend who is always down at QPR games believes he has zero pace, as you speculate on. But he has exceptional reading of the game, is physical, great in the air and is not afraid to get hurt in a tackle..... he really likes him, but believes he's not getting picked as he'd be exposed for pace in the top flight. But then.... he just types on a spreadsheet all day, so it's purely his uneducated opinion.

So he is, in fact, another Keith McPherson. Bloody slow but bloody good. Trouble is though, isn't Pearce meant to be on the road to being just the same - and I've not seen anything pacey about Khumalo. Therefore still feel we need a bit of nippiness in therefrom someone.

Overall 8/10 as a signing but possibly could do better (but probably not at 900k).

If McDermott thinks that Church and/or Manset can grow into the role vacated by Long, I think that Long's own improvement last season post-Sig behoves us to trust that judgement.

This guy is just what we need and could turn out to be as good as Steve Hetzke in regard to Spacey spelling rants.

Interesting to see that the usual suspects are already starting to say either that he's a bad signing, or that we could/should have got better by spending more money (like £3 million on Halford, I suppose).

they've invested a proportion of those funds which leaves us with money spare to ensure we even have a club as well as other potential signings (whether now or in January).

Can't see what there is to be unhappy about with this signing

I'm happy with this but only on the basis that we don't play Griffin or Harte. Otherwise our defence would be pathetically slow.
