I do give Morrison ALOT of credit for coming in doing a pretty good job and scoring goals

But at this level the exp him and Mariappa have between them just isn't good enough. If they refuse to play Pearce then we desperately need another central defender IMO

Out of interest Stan Collymore gave MOTM "award" to Tabb.

Two negtatives were Shaun Cummings - played narrow and looks out of his depth, the alternative being Gunter means we'll be weak in that position until at least January.

Not necessarily. Mariappa, who had a reasonable game can play on the right and bring Pearce into the middle. Probably the best combination and could be far better than the current set up.

Good shout, but that would involve Brian swallowing his pride.

A decent game, poor defending and poor goalkeeping on both sides. Not confident in Marriappa. He seems to lack a bit of strength, and didn't play to the whistle for Van Persie's goal. He could've got involved if he wasn't waving his arms around and looking the wrong way.

On the plus, they've sorted out the set pieces and crosses. HRK was excellent.

I wonder how different the season would have been so far if Pearce was still in the picture...

It doesn't help that the four defenders havnt played all together that often which means they are very disjointed

Ian Royal encouraging read. We were always going to lose to Utd - they were never going to let us turn them over after Norwich managed it -, shame we let in so many goals, but at least we scored a few as well with what sounds like a better performance. Brian's won himself a little bit more leeway again from me, this seems like it might be the sort of result and performance that he can actually take and do something with. Fingers crossed anyway.

I'll watch teh highlights another time but did we score from open play or was it all set pieces?

You have to see Hal's left-foot volley - brilliant from open play!

That game summed up the season quite nicely.

Dis'greed with the posters above. Thought the two CB's looked comfortable together and is a combo I'd like to see us stick with. Cummings had a mare, and if Gunter had played like that he'd be getting all kinds of stick right now.

More quality needed in the middle and up front. 2/3 decent buys in January and we might have a puncher's chance.

jellytot Our defending is so desperately bad with a struggling keeper behind. Unless we tighten up we are finished.

Our midfield is non existent too.

Finished? Have I missed something? Have we turned into Portsmouth overnight?

I'm so proud of my football club tonight I can barely believe some of the old bollocks on this thread. We might go down but if we can perform like this for much of the season then so be it.

Onwards and upwards next season if, and I stress if, it comes to that.

Once again HNA reflects how little some people know about football on this board.

Eg. Tabb was great

Tabb was crap.

Notice the poor defending. Fact are we have the second worst defence in the league. Next two
ganes will say a lot about us. We have lost 3 on the spin. Maybe bollocks are facts then! Go and support oxford! They need it.

John Madejski's Wallet Can some people really not give Tabb any credit?

I don't think he's looked that out of his depth at all the last few games. Maybe we need to partner him with someone better, as his ball-winning and laying-off was pretty bloody good again today. Yet still we keep talking about him being a 'trier' and not good enough.

He had a creditable shot at goal too.

Feds- Absolutely S****, sell the fat Aussie C***. His reaction after the first goal today was as if he didn't give a toss. Stoke, Chelsea, Peterborough (2), Wigan and Man Utd. Must be more cock ups??

Cummings like Gunter keep positioning themselves too narrow, allowing the opposition too much space. (Getting raped down that side all the time and that's my biggest worry)

Morro/Mapps- Give them more games and they should be adequate until January.

Shorey- Superb, tidy and clearly a PL player.

HRK- Excellent performance and has probably got the best cross out of our wingers. (All our wingers need to drive into the box more)

Jobi mightbegoodAnuff- Ripped Rafael to the point of substitution then Smalling shoved him in his pocket.

Tabb- Made some sharp passes today, kept things short and looked good so he needs to continue doing that. But that's completely irrelevant when you're going to be a mindless t*** and barge down Evans in the box.

L,Wood- Too slow and really should not be in the side. Get Guthrie in for next week please along side Tabb.

Roberts looked a threat again. Excellent in the wide areas but needs to add something more centrally.

Alf- Well taken goal, shame he couldn't do it against Wigan and Villa. Had some good turns around the edge of the box and should be encouraged to shoot more

Pog- No comment

Hunt- Never going to do anything. Need to get him off the books and get in a new striker in January. (Someone with pace)

We need our wingers to drive into the box more or come inside and recycle the ball and get in out to the other winger. Create space and pull their defenders out of position.

agree with a lot of the posts, especially from Floyd Streete.

We really do have a dilema, clearly McDermott is being shown up, not just in his tactics but in his transfers in the summer. But will sacking him and bringing in a big name manager make a difference? We could be well cut adrift by January anyway. I can't see teams queing up for our players come the end of the season, so perhaps it makes more sense to take our medicine this year, pocket the cash and look to bounce back next season. I firmly believe the squad is good enough to do that, assuming we can tweak a little and get shot of a few of the big time charlies like Pog and Guthrie.

The alternative is we end up with say Dick Advocat, a load of mercinaries and still go down, leaving us in a right shambles next season.

The next 2 games will define our season.

Just got in, after giving up my season ticket, and lording it in the executive boxes by the south stand, Other than Roberts performance, I quite enjoyed that.

I would have taken 0-1 before the game. We were NEVER going to keep the lead, they barely broke sweat when we went ahead, had we got to 4-4 it would have been 4-5 within minutes, we just haven't got the capability to defend.

Getting 12 points will be an achievement.

:o It's not even in doubt that we'll get more than 12 points. Silly comment.

Bollocks to this, the first time Cummings goes out wide and gets tight to Young Evra makes a run through the gap between CB and Cummings and assists the Rooney goal, its fine to say he should get tight but when the winger doesn't follow his man then its leaving a huge gap in the defense allowing them to cross from much closer in. Until the midfield start to follow their runners I would much rather Cummings stay tight and let them cross from out wide allowing Morrison Maps and Feds to try and deal with a cross than to allow them to pass the ball across the goal and make a much easier cross.
