I met a load of Grimsby fans when GTFC were on a pre-season tour of Ibiza in 2003ish?

Shared a few drinks discussing lower league hoofball and the like, but then became quite evident is that they really don't like blacks.

Another highlight of that tour was an 'unknown player' hammered at 9am, trying to get the bar that we were having breakfast inn to join 'him and the lads, as it's Tony Gallimores birthdayyyyyyyyy'

Barry the bird boggler Grimsby Town. Scene of quite possibly the greatest own goal ever - Alan Pouton from the halfway line

LOL.

As mentioned earlier in the thread a few of us have gone to Grimsby games recently as a distraction from the plight of Reading... nice to know we can be of use to each other.

I move for an unofficial fans affiliation.

royal mariner Hi everyone, im after some information from you all if you could help. Having followed Grimsby town for the last 20 years myself and a few fellow mariners have decided to take a year out from following our team, many reasons have made us decide this but the main one being frustration with the team.
We haver all decided to follow a championship team for next season chosen at random, this will include attending games home and away buying merchandise, pretty much what we would have done with our own team.
I have pulled Reading fc out of the hat and to be honest im quite excited by the prospect of being a royal for a year. what I would like to know are your thoughts and some info on the team, manager, players coming in and out as I don't really know much about the club. Also best stand to seat during match days, pubs to have a pre match pint etc. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Dale

Welcome fella. My two-penneth worth.

Reading FC - without doubt, you got the top draw here. An incredible club. Over 140 years old, and as strong now as ever before.
The highs and lows are unique. In my 40 years i've seen;
A November game at Newcastle a few years back where a win would have put us 2nd in the Premiership.
A home game against Southport in the late 70s where we were 91st in the league at kick off.
Three play off final defeats (and we ALWAYS take 40,000+ to these games)
Our Simod Cup final win at Wembley. Estimates are we took close to 43,000 to that one.
Robin Friday. You need to read up on this ex-player.
The old Elm Park and the new Madejski stadium.

What you will like:
The humerous chants from the East Stand. There are the usual basic ones, but the humour can be superb.
Bill Oddie.
Our (expected) charge towards our third Championship title in less than 10 years.

What you will dislike:
Parking (although doubt you'll drive from Grimsby)
Traffic (although it'll be easier this coming season)
A small minority of fans who would slag the players/club off whatever (but you get that everywhere)

And going forward:
You WILL get hooked.
Reading WILL be your second club

It's brilliant mate. Enjoy it. Welcome. Eaststand - have a beer and a bet before the game.

Veteran that I am, I personally can't wait.

Whenever I think of Grimsby I think of this.
