But is the club looking for him to stay and looking for someone else in case he doesn't - or are they looking for someone else so they can get rid of him? One of those chicken or egg questions...

Sky Sports: Rubin Kazan want to sign Pavel Pogrebnyak from Reading, according to Russian newspaper Izvestia. Rubin apparently want to get the striker for free and are keen for Pogrebnyak to agree with Reading to cancel his contract by mutual consent. Zenit St Petersburg have also been credited with an interest but coach Luciano Spalletti could be looking for a star name.

I am sure we would like 3M (supposedly the release clause number) but if no one will pay it then cancelling the contract by mutual consent would seem a good option (if he does not want to stay) and save us 50K a week for 3 years (7.5M or thereabouts) which can be used to buy/pay a new striker.

Think this would be a big mistake. Hes the only real striker we have. It looks as thougfh all the decent strikers that are available will be snapped up ( not by us). Pog will be great in the champ. If we rely on Alf it will be a disaster

Not sure I agree. We will most likely be playing 4-2-3-1 and I would expect a lot of goals to come from the 3 (HRK/Kebe/Drenthe/McCleary etc). I think ALF, Blackman and Roberts (if he ever recovers) can all play the striker role plus if Pog goes I am sure we will bring at least one more in (Austin/Sharp??) I think you are putting too much trust into goals coming from those you mentioned. Apart from Alf and Roberts( who may not play for a long time) none are prolific goalscorers. It will be like putting a challenging team together but forgetting the most important person - the natural goalscorer

Sorry, where did I say it did? Signing a Russian international who was away at the Euros at the time, who had just finished a very successful loan period at an established Premier League club, that was an ambitious signing!

The central defenders will be more physical than in the prem, where he wimped out of most challenges, and I don't think he has the natural agression required to boss defenders around or the speed to turm them

Perhaps if he is given decent service and gets the ball played to feet, rather than being belted over his head all the time, then he would have an impact with us.

Under Adkins, in this division, he will score plenty.
