Fully agree with Ian. On the highlights you can see the ref signal repeatedly to Stickland to get on with it. When he steps away the referee goes straight to him - there was no confusion at all.

It really is incredibly one-eyed to try and claim it shouldn't have been a second yellow, or that it was a mistake, or that the referee shouldn't do it because it's a young player, or because other referees aren't as firm on time wasting as we all want them to be.

Disagree - it’s 100% fair enough to be annoyed about inconsistency

I think most viewers would say it’s fair enough solely in the context of that game to be a yellow but if the ref is the outlier and none of the other refs are the at strict then there’s a problem

Complaining about consistency is fine, but the complaint should be about the other refs doing it wrong, not the one doing it right.

And again, if the ref isn't repeatedly signalling to get on with it, it's different... but this, you’re not only timewasting, you're ignoring the ref's instructions.

Well you know what will happen now anyway…every single match it’ll be ‘…and Stickland got sent off for far less….’

The complaint is about the standard of refereeing generally and the inconsistency overall - not nec about this ref. Well that’s my complaint anyway.

You hear people clamouring for consistency, others that referees should use common sense.

When people complain about the standard of refereeing, I always remember what Saint Steve Coppell said: if players made as few mistakes as referees it would be a completely different game.

My unpopular opinion is i clamour for players to never waste time, i like to see players attacking and moving the ball towards the opposition goal, whenever the opportunity presents itself. Even if we are winning in an important match.

Hello Mr Keegan, didn't think you'd be a Reading fan. Welcome to the board.

I think it's my inner junior spurs fan coming through. I would rather see us lose and play attacking football than win playing ugly. I want to be entertained by football, not just eek out points to sit on top of a list of football clubs. I appreciate this is a niche opinion in football.

Football was invented to have fun, not to worry about conceding.

I'm not that extreme but I would rather see good exciting high tempo football. Good game management to see a result out is very satisfying though, and I don’t mean timewasting by delaying restarts or feigning injury.

If Refs are going be that strict with regards to timewasting, I guess we'll spot which players have a "player to be carded" bet waiting to be won.

Oh ffs another Spurs fan.

Boy crush on klinsmann in 94.

First I heard of reading was flicking channels on itv in summer 95 and stumbling across a team called Reading being 1-0 up against another team called Bolton. Asked my Dad if that Reading was the same place as where we went shopping. He came in the living room and said yes it was.

Around about this time the blue and white team went 2-0 up.

It only got better after that. That seriously was my introduction to RFC.
