Predictions for this weekend

by morganb » 28 Apr 2025 22:13

Once upon a time Snowball used to run a weekly prediction competition. It has fallen by the wayside this season but I think some kind of prediction thread is needed for this weekend's games.

So, what's going to happen?

Reading v Barnsley -

Half time score?
Full time score?
First goalscorer?

Huddersfield v Leyton Orient -

Full time score?

And anything else you'd like to predict

0-0 all round

Delighted with the season and avoiding relegation (based on points).

Orient to win
Reading to draw

Unfortunately.

I think regardless of what we do, Orient will win.

Lots of possibilities:

Either Reading win comfortably but it is not enough as Huddersfield hold Orient until late on then lose it to a poor or controversial goal

Or Reading do their standard crumble under the pressure/large crowd but Orient also don't pick up all three points

Or we actually qualify for the Play-Offs

We'll score - possibly someone who doesn't usually score like Garcia or Mbengue (or even Yiadom from the bench)

I'm just hoping that we turn on the style, and get a 3-0 win, whatever happens at Huddersfield. Let's at least finish the season with a bit of a party atmosphere.

I reckon, in typical Reading fashion, Orient will either draw or lose and we will lose as well.

The only worrying thing for me is this feels very much the same energy as when we went to Pride Park and beat them 3-0, it turned out after the matches finished that a draw would have been enough for them. Just worried we'll bottle it and then Orient will lose.

Orient to win quickly and easily.

Reading, meh, 1-1 maybe. Rather that than losing out on GD.

PS I'm really poor at predictions.

Absolutely no pressure on us at all - so we will win 2-0 (Wing & Bodin in the last minute) - Orient game will have 3 or 4 mins more added time, so it will be shown live on the big screen as they bombard the Huddersfield goal as it is 1-1.

A shot is hit towards the top corner in the final seconds and the keeper is flying across his goal, it looks like he is going to get a hand on it and the stream goes down.

18k people try and find the score on their phones but the sudden surge of activity means no-one can get connected.

1 minute later, the feed comes back up showing the Orient players slumped on the ground.

Or they'll be 2-0 up in 15 mins and no-one will give a sh!t and just have a party.

If Orient make short work of Huddersfield, the atmosphere at the stadium could get deflated very quickly, hope 1871 and the surrounding blocks are up for a good bit of cheering regardless of what is going on in the Orient game because the team deserve the support.

Yeah agreed, it's been a season worth cheering for, win or lose on Saturday. 75 points is seriously impressive.

We'll win comfortably, Orient will bottle it and we'll go into the play-offs riding the crest of a wave and finally win a play-off final at Wembley.

There, I've said it.

At least we have someone to blame now.

We'll get an early goal, and for 90 minutes we'll be 6th.

Charlie Kelman will score in the 94th minute, but not before Club 1871 have spilled onto the pitch in the spirit of 2014.

Happy to be that man.

Whatever does happen though, I am so proud of this team. A collection of likeable youngsters with big futures, and I hope we're able to build on it.

Can see Orient drawing, as Udders seem to have their number. As for us, haven't got a scooby. Not getting any real intuition as to how we'll get on.

If the deal gets done, surely not even a dismal performance would ruin the atmosphere?
