Things not so peachy on Humberside. Whilst the daggers aren't necessarily out for Selles, there are a couple of familiar observations in there.

That is a little bit mad to my mind. Everything I'd seen suggested he was doing alright. They were consistent before he arrived.

Quick count gave me
before W3 D6 L10
after W8 D5 L9

Anyway.

Their form is largely mid table since he's arrived....they haven't been able to pull away from the bottom of the table as all the sides down there are picking up points.

They have 44 points from 41 games, we stayed up more than once on less than that after 46.

In 2018 we stayed up with 43 without anyone having points deductions. 47 in 2019, but Rotherham in 22nd only got 40. Then well clear in 2020 and 2021, but then 41 in 2022 (admittedly skewed by deductions for ourselves and Derby).

The bottom 2 this time are on 40 with 4 games left. Hull are on 45 with 4 games to go. In many seasons, they would be a couple of points away from safety, it just happens to be extra competitive at the bottom this year.

Poor John, never destined to return to the PL and add to his 1 app of a few minutes v Cardiff back in 2014. He’ll be 30 in the summer and no doubt end up at another mid table Championship team for a couple of years.

Think him putting a fiver on WBA to be promoted next season would be worthwhile.

Huge game for Selles today at home to Derby after the Luton win. Lose that and they go into the bottom 3 for the final round of fixtures.

And their final game is a visit to Pompey.

Pleased for him and I guess for Wrexham that justifies the outlay - think he scored 7 for them since Jan

Pleased for Femi, just wish it wasn't at Millwall.

Fair play to him. It just didn't quite work out for him here, I think he may have just not been quite physical enough for the Championship when he moved on from us. But seeing him potentially going into the Prem after being here for his academy years is gratifying in its own way. I wonder whether we have one of those in perpetuity sell-on clauses and if that would amount to much if he does move on.

Is it fair to say it didn’t work out or was it more a case of he decided to take a different route ? I can’t entirely remember the circumstances of his moving abroad but my (possibly flawed) recollection is he made a conscious decision to go overseas rather than stay with us.

I think he wasn’t in any plans. At the time we were going with journeyman shit over academy players fairly regularly. So it was a case of maybe staying in our Academy getting little chance for another year or two, or going to play first team football.

I thought he was worth more of a chance than he got... it seems to have taken him a little while to get going, but another quality Academy player from that era where we just let them go without getting any real benefit from them.

Yeah I can't remember if he jumped or was pushed, so to speak, but whichever it was I'd say it didn't work out here.

I'm happy to see him doing well now and if he gets into the Prem, it will be more proof of how good our academy is. Just a shame we couldn't cash in on him properly at the time, but that's another example of how badly we were being run at the time.

My recollection is he played in pre-season, looked handy, we then signed a bunch of journeymen cloggers and he immediately disappeared abroad.

Looking it up, perhaps a bit harsh on our signings.

Left in 2020/21 (That long ago!?)

Transfers in
Laurent, Ejaria (turned out a bit disastrously, but hard to predict), Camara, Onen, Luzon

Loans in
Gibson, Semedo, Esteves

So only really Ejaria competing for Holsgrove's position.

Wiki has Holsgrove as sold for undisclosed, rather than released. Believe as you will.
