dont_do_it_doug He's distinctly average. Nowhere near as bad as some make out, but not exactly 'the Equadorian David Beckham' either.

We finished 6th with him as our first choice right back if that's any help?

Is it purely a coincidence he's taken Squad no. 23...? Can't work out if being 'the Equadorian David Beckham' is a good or bad thing...

Gordons Cumming

Gordons Cumming
Alan Partridge 1 year deal with Reading, not in the squad for tomorrow though.

(Just for GC that one)

Meaning?

your post on rumours and gossip t'other day, saying first with OS news.

Ah,yes.

Many thanks

What would we do without you?

What do you think? Good move? Villa reject?

Well it's a no lose really. Won't be on massive wages, wants to play for us and has proved at the highest level he can cope. Indifferent spell at Villa but Coppell has obviously seen enough to feel he's good enough for this year, I'm quite happy. We STILL need a centre half and not a nutcase like Bikey.

SouthDownsRoyal Not my first choice of signing but with a week left or so he can do a job for a year I think so not bad.

I think with this signing you've got to look at him as a direct replacement for Makin with Bikey to come in and push for a starting berth. If you look at it like that then he's a very good signing on a free and the Villa messages are more positive than I thought.

usless arse duh la cruz.

We really are desperate.

ffs why didn't we chuck a bit extra in for someone like kilgallon - he's worth it! 2million would have done the job... we were going for two $5 million bids at one point!

We're not gonna get any decent players by putting in below par crap offers every time we are interested in a player.

Well, I reckon if he is a decent hard working lad, then the rest will fall into place. Coppell seems to get the best out his players and players want to work for him and impress. Maybe Villa was not right for him and he will see this as a chance to become a favourite at a smaller club and re light his career.

Or maybe I am just feeling very optomistic this morning!?

I seem to remember a similar accusation being levelled at Seol. How’s he playing at Reading?

The problem I have with this signings is simple. Murty is great getting forward, but arguabley isn't the best at defending, Halls is another attacking full back who looks bad defending. In Makin we had a full back who was a solid defender, who provided a real alternative to Murty and Halls. De La Cruz is just another attacking full back who can't defend.

So either De La Cruz has shown something in training, or we're getting desperate.....

I hope he does do well - maybe he has something to prove? Maybe coppell has seen something in him that Villa didn't...

I still think we could do better and bring in more quality - he and bikey and sodje are good back line squad fillers.
Even heskey's managing to lumber through our defence (minus sonko)... we are in the premiership now and need to boost our squad accordingly - shame we can't capture a player the likes of mensah or fae.

I do hope it's gonna be enough to keep us up.

My contact in Scotland has described De La Cruz from his days at Hibs as "fast but not very good".

I'm like that, except without the fast.

...so if he's the Equadorian David Beckham... he must be an overpaid, overrated, primadonna has-been who's not gonna be playing for his country any time soon?

I do think it's great that he sends money home to his family though ...maybe we should be sponsored by the red cross rather than Kyocera and register ourselves as an international charity for ailing footballers?
