My son has shown me a comment on X, which says, “I can’t believe an idiot “fan” in 1871 started on and punched Mikey Gow and got him chucked out of the stadium. All the man has done for the club during this Dai Yongge disaster and this is how he is thanked for it. Shame on you!”
This incident took place just behind me, so I can add a few details:
Just before KO there was a bit of a fuss because a male supporter was wearing an Everton shirt. He was told in no uncertain terms that this was not welcome. Mikey Gow (if it was him) was assaulted several times by several Reading fans over a period of about ten minutes. A few minutes into the game, more supporters turned on him, with one pointing out that this was one of the most important days in the club’s history, and wearing another club’s shirt was disrespectful. Two female supporters tried to explain that he worked for the EFL and that he had been instrumental in getting Dai banned as a director. Eventually, two brick shithouses disguised as stewards arrived and took him away. I heard him ask if the complaint (which I assume the stewards were responding to) was about his Everton shirt and they said it was.
I cannot help but wonder why an EFL official would be in Club 1871 in the first place, let alone stood right in the middle (a few rows in front of the drummer) wearing the shirt of another club. All very strange.
