Hound
morganb From last night's Q & A:

Rob Couhig Why is Noel Hunt in charge?

Rob inherited Noel and looked at what he had done prior to arrival- 'an exemplary job.' He Met criteria upon arrival.

He knew bulk of the squad needed replacing. Have refused compensation for Amadou Mbengue for lack of appropriate pay and it will be going to tribunal. Priority was Lewis Wing and Joel Pereira contracts. Third person was Paudie- signature signing. Now have a ‘great’ combination of youth and experience.

Impressed with Noel’s judgement on people. Judges talent but also character of people. Liked what Noel did every day, and even more so today. As philosophy beds in, performances have improved. Dug a hole with slow start.

Never considered firing Noel- doesn’t believe a sacking improves players or changes anything.

As long as players support him, and they absolutely do, it does nothing but take pressure of an owner. Ultimately, he’s responsible so blame him. Noel will get better as he’s still learning- only been in the role less than a year. Is he capable of learning? Capable and proven in doing so.

Fair enough and good to hear a solid backing

Everyone is rooting for Hunt to do well, we’ve got a little bit of momentum now and a good squad in place. Up to him now to make the right decisions with who we have and try to get some proper progress this season

I’d love to see us play properly well tomorrow, not just bits and pieces of games and at least get some enjoyable games in til the inevitable player turnover again at the end of the year

It would be good for Hunt to succeed for himself and for us obviously but also because he's Reading through and through at this point so should be much less likely to jump ship, especially at the first shitty offer like Selles.

yeah I want Hunt to succeed. Hearing that from Couhig is important as it isn't a vote of confidence it is an honest appraisal of where we are and the faith that he has.

Yes, good for him which means good for us so while he is in the job let's hope that he does well.

I take issue with your Reading "through and through"
This is not a Parky or a Gilkes this is somebody who played for 10 different clubs and spent as much time playing in Scotland as he did for us.
He even ended up coaching at Swindon.

Just a minor point but I don't think he is Reading through and through and in the very unlikely event (IMHO) that he ends up jumping ship I won't mind because it will have meant that our club has done well.

Maybe that phrase was a bit too strong but I personally feel that his affections to the club are probably an 8/10, 7 at a minimum.

Both a poor performance and failure to win tomorrow and I think it'll be toxic tomorrow.

The honeymoon is over and it's time to starting winning league games , at the moment we've been spluttering along scraping a point here or there . Tomorrow should be an intention of intent. Anything but a win and a few more nails will be hammered in the rusty coffin

I think it's this attitude that's toxic.

We're on a run with one defeat in 6, and it'll be toxic if we don't win or perform?

The cup results have slightly skewed the position as in the league we have only won 2 out of 9 but different people have different ways of looking at things.
A win today should take pressure off the manager, if indeed there is any pressure, but a loss could put us in one of the relegation places

There is, an apology to Ian.
Hopefully today sees us get our 3rd win in the league from 10 games.
