Woodcote Royal Hey, an early contender for Pr!ck of the year :P

There's a fair few of them on here.

I don't mind Dellor. He may have his moments of buffoonery - which he plays up too, in fairness - but at least he is genuinely interested in (and probably cares about) the club's fortunes. That's more than you normally expect from local radio hired hacks.

That said, if he didn't have the counter balance of Mick Gooding on the show, I probably wouldn't listen.

Extended-Phenotype Agreed. Sit back, take it for what it is, and enjoy it. He isn't Motson, but I doubt he's under that illusion either.

The man is a total embarrassment. Why should be have to put up with his utter drivel week on tedious week?
I suppose you could try avoiding it by attending matches, instead of listening in on the radio

Whilst I agree that 107 was very average, Dellor is the worst RFC commentator I've heard.
That's a ringing indictment indeed. The worst commentator Woodcote's heard
Given his private education, I can't believe this silly man's greatest talent is making a fool of himself and the 4th official remarks were a perfect example......................if you are not sure of the facts (and how many of those who have the slightest interest in doing Dellor's job would not know this :| ) shut the fcuk up

Some may see him as amusing whilst the rest of us believe we are entitled to be listening to a professional or, at the very least, a former player who has played the game at a similar level.
And some think it's just some bloke on a local radio station, and don't get worked up about it.

This man has had more than long enough to show that he is up to the task but has failed by all sensible assessments.
You mean he fails in your assessment

Have you thought about trying group?

So, anyone who can't go to a game should be grateful for anything they get :|

Have you heard of the Northern Royals? This may come as a shock but, like most clubs, we have fans all round the world who rely on this coverage, making your infantile remarks about my personal attendance irrelevant.

Meanwhile, we have the left wing BBC who are quite happy to see us put behind bars if we fail to pay our TV licence...................so I make no apologies for expecting our local nationalised radio station to provide sporting coverage to an acceptable standard.

PS. Is Tim your brother? You appear to peddle a similar line in drivel.

Spot on - and the worst is that he doesn't know how wrong is is on so many things, but he'll be so strident and insistent that he's completely right about things. Until after the next break, when he very quietly intimates that perhaps he wasn't right after all and changes the subject.

like when he goes on about our finances, then weeks later has to apologise for being full of shit

still rather him that williams though

Wimb

Wimb My only critique is that sometimes he reaches too far to make a point and gets the facts totally wrong.

The best was when he was talking about how the book Moneyball was about the Oakland Raiders winning the World Series to back up his point about how stats can win you things.

The fact it was about the Oakland A's who won their DIVISION but not the World Series didn't seem to matter.

These are the kind of small details I really don't care about. An American team won something because they followed the Moneyball principles. He's got the gist of it.

Just a bit cringe when you know what it's about. It's like saying to an American audience how the Newcastle Falcons won the English Premier League title in 1995/96 thanks to a great attacking philosophy.

Generally don't mind the bloke, always listen to the commentary when I'm at the game, his anecdotes are fairly amusing when you're waiting 45 seconds for Neil Sullivan to take a goal kick. As others have said he does far more at BBC Berks than just commentate on Reading so he's never going to have the time to get everything 100% right, so he's doing a decent job in my book.

It's a fair point, and I guess he has a few American listeners, but most aren't. Whilst I would like him to know everything, most of the things he seems to get wrong are pretty irrelevant (e.g. who keeps the time), and actually he gives a pretty good idea of what's happening. I also find him entertaining, which considering the standard of quite a lot of the games I've been to/ listened to is actually quite nice.

I was not offering an opinion on Tim at all. Just trying to highlight (by quoting you back)that taste is subjective, and your opinion is just that. An opinion. Your Insults to those who may hold a different view just make you look like a similar kind of arrogant twat to the one you accuse Tim of being.

Out of interest how many RFC commentaters have you heard? Live commentry on games has only been going since the 90's so it's not exactly a long list. Tim's been doing the job for the best part of ten years, and I can't even think of any previous commentators.

Just a suggestion to the local based fans who dislike TD's commentary.
Get off your fat asses and attend the games.

Or

Turn the radio off and watch Ceefax.

Thankfully I rarely hear the commenatary as I'm at most games - which is why I was so astounded at how bad this one was. (Drove back from NY away and got back into reception range at 3 pm on 2nd Jan.)

But depaite that there's still the preamble and the match wrap-up at ever home match.

Some people cannot afford to go to games, some people cannot physically get to games.
I listen if I cannot get away from work early enough and I still think Dellor is a knob, but I still choose to listen.
However I agree with you, turn it off if its that bad

To be fair to TD, much of the drivel on Radio Berks is from texters who are either furious or drooling depending whether we win or lose.

Of all his little quirks and annoyances, I'm really quite shocked at how hysterical he's made some people. Surely he's not THAT bad.

A few on this thread sound like they are on the verge of being the protagonist in a news article which starts "15 people died today..." and ends "...then turned the gun on themselves."

Dellor might need to take out a restraining order against Svlad. You aren't going to do anything stupid, are you mate?

TV licence is in essence a tax, so unless people are going to follow the Glorious Leader's example and take a tax holiday, why shouldn't they be prosecuted for not paying?

Jonathan Richards (was innocent) and Mark Gonella. Both went to my school, as did Matt Allright - it was independent now public, so perhaps the BBC do have certain selection criteria!

To balance them (actually the scales would have completely fallen over in this latter direction) Steve Beddow and the Welsh Windbag aka Mike Lewis - he of the infamous moaning minnies!

I quite like a lot of the BBCRB coverage.

Gooding is the absolute highlight of course but the commentry is a close second. I don't need to know every kick and tackle to get a feel for whats happening. I'd much rather get a feel for the ebb and flow of the game, the atmosphere and the side comments that come from the whole team than just have a very dry factual representation of where the ball is and all that.

I really can't stand the text parts of the coverage, but that's just all media that do that now to be interactive, and the repitition of interviews from earlier in the week but all in all I think it's a decent level of coverage.

If Dellor didn't get a few things wrong here and there you'd not get some of the debate to educate the masses (eg the questions over the finances) so in many ways that's public service broadcasting at it's best!

The BBC are always accused of being left-wing because that's what unsponsored and factual impartiality sounds like.

I guess that's a bit of shock to those peeping up from behind thier Sun's, waiting for wait, Jeremey Clarkson, to come on the channel.

Funnies.

My point is that whilst for decades they have threatened with imprisonment those who fail to pay their TV licence, they regularly suggest that a similar punishment may not be appropriate for those who riot in the street, loot shops and set fire to buildings.

My secondary point is that while all our national newspapers are up front about their own views and we all have the choice to buy them or not, we don't enjoy either luxury with our national broadcaster.

And, funnily enough, the BBC is usually seen as impartial by those who buy The Daily Mirror.
